We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Sheet Metal Forming Specialist to lead sheet metal forming operations within our fabrication team. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of sheet metal forming processes, tooling setup, material behavior, and machine troubleshooting. This role requires leadership in process optimization, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring consistent product quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Lead and oversee daily sheet metal forming activities, including machine operation, part inspection, and workflow scheduling.
Provide technical guidance to operators and junior specialists on forming techniques, safety, and process improvements.
Independently set up, program, and operate press brakes, roll formers, hydraulic presses, and other sheet metal forming equipment.
Design and modify forming sequences, tooling, and dies for complex part geometries.
Solve complex fabrication challenges related to springback, tolerance stack-up, and material formability.
Ensure parts meet all dimensional and surface finish specifications by performing detailed inspections.
Maintain records of inspection results, deviations, and corrective actions taken.
Collaborate with QA team to develop inspection protocols and root cause analysis for defects.
Analyze current forming processes and recommend improvements to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and optimize material usage.
Work with engineering to review part designs for manufacturability (DFM) and suggest design modifications as needed.
Contribute to the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Coordinate with planning, engineering, procurement, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations.
Assist in the evaluation and selection of new forming equipment and tools.
Support training programs for upskilling technicians and apprentices.
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Technology, or Sheet Metal Fabrication.
6+ years of experience in sheet metal forming, with increasing responsibility in a manufacturing/fabrication environment.
In-depth understanding of press brake programming (manual and CNC), tooling setup, and forming strategies.
Strong knowledge of material behavior (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) during cold forming.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and production documentation.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement tools.
