Senior Mechanical Engineer – Water Infrastructure

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within water infrastructure projects. The role includes assisting senior engineers in developing mechanical layouts, equipment specifications, and technical documentation for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and distribution networks.


Key Focus Area:

  • Assisting in the design and analysis of mechanical systems for water and wastewater infrastructure, including pumps, valves, piping systems, and treatment equipment, while learning and applying relevant industry standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support senior engineers in mechanical design tasks, calculations, and system layouts.

  • Assist in preparing equipment data sheets, specifications, and engineering drawings.

  • Conduct basic hydraulic calculations (flow rate, pressure loss, pump head).

  • Participate in site visits, equipment inspections, and commissioning activities.

  • Help review vendor documents and product submittals.

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and operation & maintenance manuals.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., AWWA, ASME, ISO).

  • Collaborate with other disciplines (civil, electrical, process) during project development.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 0–2 years of experience in mechanical design or infrastructure-related projects (internships or co-ops count).

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems used in water/wastewater treatment.


Key Skills:

  • Fundamentals of mechanical engineering – especially fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.

  • Technical drawing and design software – AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit (basic proficiency required).

  • Analytical thinking – ability to perform and interpret basic hydraulic and mechanical calculations.

  • Communication skills – clear reporting and willingness to learn through collaboration.

  • Attention to detail – accurate preparation of documentation and review of technical content.

  • Teamwork – ability to work under supervision and contribute to multidisciplinary teams.


Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Familiarity with EPANET, WaterCAD, or similar hydraulic modeling tools.

  • Basic knowledge of codes and standards (AWWA, ASME, API).

  • Internship experience in water utilities, construction, or consulting is a plus.

  • EIT/FE Certification (preferred or in progress).


Working Conditions:

  • Office-based work with occasional site visits to treatment plants or construction projects.

  • Must be able to work safely in industrial and outdoor environments.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites when needed.
