Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Sanitary Valves

Job Summary:

The Junior Mechanical Engineer – Sanitary Valves supports the engineering team in the design, selection, and validation of sanitary valve systems used in hygienic food and beverage processing environments. This entry-level role focuses on ensuring valve components meet hygienic design standards, function reliably in CIP/SIP systems, and comply with food safety regulations. The engineer assists with technical documentation, vendor evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration to support plant operations and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Valve Design & Support

  • Assist in the design and specification of sanitary valves such as butterfly, diaphragm, and mixproof valves for food-grade applications.

  • Support modifications and improvements to valve designs to enhance hygienic performance and ease of maintenance.

Compliance & Validation

  • Help verify that valve materials and designs comply with 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA regulations, and internal food safety requirements.

  • Support validation activities related to valve cleanability, drainability, and product contact surfaces.

Technical Documentation

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining technical documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, material certifications, and validation records.

  • Help review vendor datasheets and technical submittals to ensure compliance with specifications.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with process engineers, maintenance teams, and quality assurance to support valve installations, troubleshooting, and process improvements.

  • Communicate with valve suppliers to clarify design requirements and resolve technical queries.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Food Engineering, or related field

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of engineering experience, internships or co-op experience in food or sanitary equipment manufacturing preferred

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of sanitary valve types and hygienic design principles

  • Familiarity with 3-A Sanitary Standards and FDA food contact regulations a plus

  • Proficiency in CAD software and technical drawing interpretation

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
