We are seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer – Fabrication to join our team with a strong focus on fabrication design, manufacturing support, and process improvement. This role requires a deep understanding of metalworking processes, design for manufacturability (DFM), and hands-on engineering execution. You will work cross-functionally with design, production, and quality teams to ensure components are built efficiently and accurately, from prototype through production.
Develop and optimize mechanical designs for components and systems intended for fabrication.
Generate accurate 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
Apply GD&T standards to ensure dimensional accuracy and functional performance.
Evaluate designs to ensure manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and ease of fabrication.
Work with shop floor and vendors to validate and refine designs based on fabrication capabilities.
Recommend material and process selections based on application and performance criteria.
Define and document fabrication processes including cutting, bending, welding, and machining.
Support development of welding procedures and jigs/fixtures to ensure repeatability and quality.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor.
Support prototyping activities, ensuring designs can be efficiently transitioned to production.
Participate in functional and stress testing of fabricated parts.
Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting for design or fabrication failures.
Liaise with procurement and vendors on fabrication outsourcing, quality standards, and timelines.
Coordinate with QA/QC to ensure products meet all engineering and regulatory standards.
Provide engineering support to production teams during fabrication and assembly.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3–6 years of experience in mechanical design and fabrication engineering.
Strong knowledge of fabrication methods (CNC machining, laser cutting, TIG/MIG welding, sheet metal work).
Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
Understanding of GD&T, ASME standards, and mechanical tolerances.
Familiarity with FEA tools and stress/strain calculations (preferred).
Hands-on experience with prototyping and shop floor troubleshooting.
Strong communication, documentation, and project management skills.
