Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fabrication

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Mechanical Engineer – Fabrication supports the design, development, and implementation of fabricated mechanical components and systems. The role includes assisting in CAD modeling, creating manufacturing drawings, supporting production processes, and learning to apply design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles. This is an entry-level position ideal for hands-on learners who want to grow within fabrication and product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and drafting of mechanical components for fabrication using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).

  • Support the preparation of technical drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.

  • Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation of fabricated parts.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and sourcing teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.

  • Conduct basic engineering calculations related to stress, material selection, and tolerances.

  • Assist with product changes, engineering change orders (ECOs), and document control.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. CAD Modeling & Drafting:

    • Create and revise 2D/3D models of sheet metal, welded, and machined components.

  2. Manufacturing Support:

    • Observe and learn fabrication processes such as stamping, forming, welding, and machining to better understand manufacturing constraints.

  3. Design for Manufacturability (DFM):

    • Learn to apply DFM principles to simplify designs and reduce production costs or assembly complexity.

  4. Engineering Documentation:

    • Maintain up-to-date technical drawings, specifications, and change logs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Internship or academic project experience in fabrication or mechanical design is preferred.

  • Familiarity with mechanical design software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).

  • Basic understanding of fabrication methods (welding, stamping, machining).

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

  • Eagerness to learn and develop technical and hands-on skills.
