We are seeking a technically proficient and results-driven HVAC Engineer to support the design, operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of HVAC systems within a power plant. This mid-level role involves both fieldwork and engineering analysis, and is ideal for professionals with experience in thermal systems, industrial ventilation, and cooling infrastructure who are looking to take on more responsibility in project execution and system improvements.
System Operation & Troubleshooting
Manage and monitor HVAC system performance across plant areas including turbine halls, control rooms, electrical rooms, and auxiliary buildings.
Diagnose performance issues in equipment such as chillers, AHUs, exhaust fans, and cooling towers.
Respond to system alarms, initiate corrective action plans, and verify resolution.
Design Review & System Upgrades
Evaluate and improve existing HVAC designs to meet operational requirements, thermal loads, and environmental standards.
Develop or review technical drawings, HVAC load calculations, and equipment specifications.
Participate in retrofit and upgrade projects for aging equipment or energy optimization efforts.
Maintenance & Reliability Engineering
Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance activities for HVAC systems.
Conduct root cause analysis for recurring system failures and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure reliability of critical cooling systems tied to electrical equipment and control infrastructure.
Energy Efficiency & Optimization
Analyze system energy use and contribute to plant energy-saving initiatives (e.g., variable speed drive tuning, economizer use, setpoint optimization).
Assist in identifying and implementing low-cost/no-cost HVAC energy efficiency measures.
Collaborate with energy and control teams to align HVAC operations with plant performance targets.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate documentation for system configurations, updates, and maintenance records.
Ensure HVAC systems comply with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISO 50001, OSHA).
Support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) audits as they relate to HVAC system operation.
Collaboration & Technical Support
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams during shutdowns, overhauls, and capital projects.
Provide guidance to junior engineers and HVAC technicians on system operation and troubleshooting.
Interface with external vendors, contractors, and consultants during project execution.
Optimize HVAC system performance and reliability
Support upgrades, retrofits, and maintenance projects
Conduct thermal and airflow analysis across plant areas
Manage documentation and ensure compliance with codes/standards
Act as a bridge between design, operations, and energy teams
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related discipline
Certifications (Preferred or Willing to Obtain):
ASHRAE certifications (e.g., BEAP, HBDP), CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or LEED credentials
Training in AutoCAD, HVAC design tools (e.g., HAP, TRACE 700), or BMS platforms is a plus
Experience:
2–5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC system operation, maintenance, or design in industrial environments
Experience with thermal load calculations, ventilation design, and HVAC troubleshooting in high-demand facilities
Skills:
Solid understanding of HVAC principles (psychrometrics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics)
Familiarity with industrial cooling systems, ventilation design, and filtration standards
Proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, and HVAC modeling/simulation tools
Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and communication abilities
