The Mid-Level Sanitary Design Specialist – 3-A/ASME BPE is responsible for developing and validating sanitary equipment and process designs that meet stringent hygienic standards, including 3-A Sanitary Standards and ASME BPE (BioProcessing Equipment). This role plays a critical part in ensuring that systems such as tanks, piping, valves, and skids used in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries meet cleanability, sterility, and compliance requirements.
This position requires practical experience in sanitary system design and the ability to work cross-functionally with fabrication, QA, and project management teams.

Develop sanitary process designs including P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and isometric piping layouts.
Ensure proper drainability, minimum dead leg configurations, and hygienic weld joint locations.
Apply clean-in-place (CIP) and sterilize-in-place (SIP) best practices to designs.
Interpret and apply 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE guidelines, and customer-specific requirements to all design work.
Evaluate and document conformance of equipment, materials, and assemblies with regulatory and hygienic codes.
Select and specify hygienic valves, pumps, fittings, sensors, and seals that meet process and compliance needs.
Collaborate with suppliers to confirm component certifications (e.g., 3-A, USP Class VI, FDA compliance).
Participate in design reviews and compliance audits with internal teams and clients.
Generate and review design qualification documents including datasheets, compliance checklists, and technical reports.
Coordinate with fabrication and QA/QC teams to ensure that sanitary design intent is realized during manufacturing and assembly.
Provide technical support during FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) for hygiene-critical systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field.
3–6 years of experience in sanitary equipment design or hygienic process systems.
Strong understanding of 3-A and ASME BPE standards, including cleanability, material selection, and weld design.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools for piping and equipment layout.
Familiarity with CIP/SIP design methodologies.
Working knowledge of hygienic fabrication practices and component functionality.
Understanding of materials of construction and surface finish requirements (e.g., Ra measurements).
