The Junior Sanitary Design Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and review of sanitary process equipment designs to ensure compliance with industry standards such as 3-A Sanitary Standards and ASME BPE (BioProcessing Equipment). This role supports senior engineers in applying hygienic design principles to piping systems, valves, tanks, and skids used in industries such as food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

Assist in creating and modifying sanitary piping and equipment layouts using CAD or 3D modeling software.
Apply basic hygienic design principles for cleanability, drainability, and contamination control.
Support senior designers in developing P&IDs, isometrics, and layout drawings.
Learn and assist in applying 3-A and ASME BPE standards to designs.
Check for correct use of sanitary fittings, slopes, valve orientations, and minimum dead legs.
Document and flag potential non-compliance issues for senior review.
Support the selection of hygienic components such as valves, fittings, pumps, and seals.
Collaborate with purchasing and engineering teams to ensure selected parts meet required certifications (e.g., 3-A, FDA, USP Class VI).
Assist in preparing design review documents, specification sheets, and compliance checklists.
Work with QA/QC to understand fabrication implications and help ensure design-intent is met in manufacturing.
Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions with mechanical, process, and QA teams.
Communicate clearly and document all design changes or deviations.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related technical discipline.
0–2 years of experience in sanitary design, process equipment, or CAD drafting.
Basic knowledge of sanitary fabrication principles and clean-in-place (CIP) systems.
Exposure to or coursework in 3-A or ASME BPE standards.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools.
Good understanding of piping design, material selection, and sanitary component functionality.
Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn from senior specialists.
