The Senior SCADA Developer leads the design, development, integration, and optimization of SCADA systems for real-time monitoring of electrical infrastructure. This role oversees the development of HMI interfaces, communication networks, and automation strategies, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and compliance with industrial standards. The role involves working across engineering disciplines to deliver advanced SCADA solutions for critical electrical assets.
Project Leadership & System Architecture:
Lead the design and implementation of SCADA architectures for monitoring high- and medium-voltage electrical systems including substations, breakers, transformers, UPS, and energy meters.
Advanced HMI Design:
Develop and standardize high-performance HMI interfaces using modern visualization principles and ISA 101 guidelines for intuitive real-time status and alarm visibility.
System Integration and Protocol Management:
Integrate SCADA systems with PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and power meters using industry-standard protocols like Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, and OPC UA.
Alarm Management and Historical Logging:
Design and maintain alarm management strategies, historical trending, and event logging for asset health, fault analysis, and compliance reporting.
Cybersecurity & Network Configuration:
Ensure SCADA system compliance with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443) including access control, data encryption, and firewall policies.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Coordinate with electrical engineers, IT/OT teams, operations, and OEMs to align SCADA capabilities with operational goals and system upgrades.
SCADA System Optimization:
Lead system performance tuning, database optimization, tag standardization, and redundancy configuration to ensure high availability and fast response.
Team Mentorship & Documentation:
Mentor junior developers and oversee the creation of comprehensive documentation including logic diagrams, tag databases, system architecture, and SOPs.
Digital Transformation Support:
Contribute to smart grid, IIoT, and digital twin initiatives by integrating SCADA data into enterprise-level platforms for predictive analytics and centralized monitoring.
High-Reliability Electrical Monitoring Systems:
Develop SCADA platforms that ensure real-time visibility, fault tolerance, and failover capability for mission-critical electrical assets.
Standards-Based Design:
Adhere to and implement design best practices from ISA-101, ISA-18.2 (alarm management), and IEC 61850.
Advanced SCADA Tools & Platforms:
Mastery in platforms such as Ignition, GE iFIX, Siemens WinCC OA, Wonderware System Platform, or AVEVA.
Energy Management System (EMS) Integration:
Enhance SCADA systems with EMS functions for load profiling, power quality monitoring, and energy efficiency analytics.
Lifecycle Management:
Manage system upgrades, patches, backups, and migration strategies ensuring minimum downtime and seamless transitions.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering.
5+ years of hands-on experience in SCADA development and integration with a focus on electrical or utility systems.
Proven expertise in SCADA platform deployment, HMI/GUI development, tag architecture, and advanced protocol handling.
Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, protection schemes, and energy management principles.
Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python, JavaScript, VBScript), SQL queries, and industrial networking.
Certified Automation Professional (CAP), ISA certifications, or equivalent credentials are a strong plus.
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
