SCADA Developer – Real-time Status for Electrical Assets

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior SCADA Developer supports the design, development, and maintenance of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems used to monitor and visualize the real-time status of electrical assets. This role involves assisting in screen development, device integration, and ensuring accurate and timely data display from substations, transformers, circuit breakers, and related assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • SCADA Screen Development:
Assist in developing and configuring graphical user interface (GUI) screens to display real-time status of electrical systems (e.g., voltage, current, breaker status).

  • Tag Mapping and Signal Integration:
Support signal mapping between field devices (RTUs, PLCs) and SCADA software; ensure correct addressing and value representation.

  • Alarm and Event Configuration:
Help configure basic alarm logic and event logs for key electrical asset states (e.g., fault trips, overcurrent, undervoltage).

  • Data Validation:
Work with senior developers and field teams to verify accuracy and reliability of real-time data feeds.

  • Documentation Support:
Assist in creating technical documentation, HMI screen descriptions, tag lists, and basic operation guides.

  • Basic Troubleshooting:
Participate in testing and troubleshooting SCADA communication issues under guidance from senior team members.

  • Version Control and Testing:
Support versioning and deployment of SCADA updates; participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).

Focus Areas:

  1. Real-Time Electrical Asset Monitoring:
Display live data from electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, and meters through intuitive graphics.

  2. SCADA Software Tools:
Gain experience with SCADA platforms such as GE iFIX, Siemens WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar tools.

  3. Communication Protocols:
Work with common industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, or OPC UA.

  4. System Tagging and Addressing:
Understand and apply best practices for structuring tag databases and addressing schemes within SCADA environments.

  5. Safety & Security Awareness:
Follow cyber hygiene and safety rules when working with critical electrical systems and data networks.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering.

  • 0–2 years of experience in SCADA/HMI development, preferably in power systems or industrial automation.

  • Familiarity with PLC/RTU hardware and basic control logic.

  • Exposure to electrical distribution systems, one-line diagrams, and device interlocks is a plus.

  • Basic programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, VBScript, SQL) are beneficial.

  • Good analytical and communication skills, with willingness to learn on the job.
