Roles & Responsibilities

The SCADA/Telemetry Supervisor – Lab Utilities is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and performance of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and telemetry systems across critical laboratory utility systems. The role ensures system reliability, regulatory compliance, real-time data integrity, and coordination with cross-functional teams for system integration and continuous improvement.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. SCADA System Supervision

    • Oversee SCADA infrastructure for utility systems (e.g., HVAC, clean steam, purified water, compressed air).

    • Monitor data acquisition performance and ensure continuous system availability.

  2. Telemetry Integration and Calibration

    • Supervise integration of field devices (sensors, transmitters, RTUs) and ensure accurate telemetry data reporting.

    • Coordinate with technicians for calibration of pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors.

  3. System Maintenance and Troubleshooting

    • Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

    • Lead root cause analysis of SCADA or telemetry-related system issues.

  4. Compliance and Documentation

    • Ensure compliance with GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 17025, and CLIA standards.

    • Maintain updated SOPs, calibration records, and validation documentation.

  5. Alarm and Event Management

    • Develop and maintain alarm handling strategies to support quick responses and reduce nuisance alarms.

    • Manage escalation protocols for abnormal system behavior.

  6. Team Leadership and Supervision

    • Supervise and mentor a team of technicians; assign tasks and monitor performance.

    • Conduct hands-on training on SCADA, PLC basics, and telemetry systems.

  7. Cybersecurity and Data Integrity

    • Ensure secure access to SCADA systems and adherence to cybersecurity protocols.

    • Safeguard the integrity of real-time and historical process data.

  8. Cross-System Integration

    • Support integration of SCADA with EMS (Environmental Monitoring Systems), BMS, and LIMS platforms.

    • Coordinate with IT/OT teams for system connectivity and data sharing.

  9. Validation Support

    • Assist in executing validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) for new system deployments and updates.

  10. Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend and implement system upgrades, performance enhancements, and energy optimization strategies.


Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Automation.

  • Experience:

    • 5–7 years in SCADA/telemetry environments, including 2+ years in a supervisory role within a regulated or laboratory setting.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Experience with SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, WinCC), PLC programming, and industrial networking.

    • Understanding of Modbus, OPC, BACnet, and other fieldbus protocols.

  • Preferred Certifications:

    • GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, ISA/IEC 62443 (Cybersecurity), or equivalent.
