Job Title: Senior Rigger
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Rigger to join our construction and operations team. As a Senior Rigger, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all rigging activities on-site, ensuring that lifting operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. You will manage complex rigging tasks, provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level riggers, and take the lead in coordinating lifting operations with crane operators, site supervisors, and other construction teams. This role requires strong leadership skills, expert knowledge in rigging, and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Coordination:
- Lead and supervise all rigging activities on-site, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of lifting and moving heavy equipment, materials, and machinery.
- Coordinate with site managers, crane operators, and other personnel to ensure that rigging operations are well-organized and executed according to the project plan.
- Manage multiple rigging tasks simultaneously, delegating responsibilities to junior and mid-level riggers and ensuring tasks are completed on time and in accordance with safety standards.
Rigging Setup and Execution:
- Oversee the setup and operation of rigging equipment such as cranes, hoists, slings, cables, and other lifting devices for complex and heavy lifts.
- Determine the appropriate rigging method for each lift, ensuring the load is properly secured and balanced.
- Conduct thorough assessments of the rigging plan to ensure it meets project requirements, complies with safety standards, and optimizes the lifting process.
Safety Management:
- Ensure that all rigging activities adhere to safety regulations and industry standards, including OSHA and other relevant safety guidelines.
- Conduct safety briefings and daily toolboxes with the rigging team to review procedures, hazards, and best practices.
- Monitor work areas for safety hazards, perform risk assessments, and implement corrective actions to minimize risks.
- Oversee the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that team members follow all safety protocols.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance:
- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and proper use of rigging equipment and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Manage the routine maintenance of rigging tools and equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards and are ready for use when needed.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, defects, or wear and tear, ensuring timely repairs or replacements.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide training and mentorship to junior and mid-level riggers, ensuring they are skilled in rigging techniques, safety protocols, and equipment handling.
- Lead by example, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and quality.
- Conduct on-the-job training, offering guidance on complex rigging tasks and providing solutions to challenges encountered on-site.
- Promote continuous learning and development within the rigging team, helping to build a strong, knowledgeable team.
Problem Solving and Decision-Making:
- Address and resolve any rigging-related issues or challenges quickly and effectively to minimize project delays.
- Make informed decisions on rigging methods, equipment, and load handling under pressure, ensuring that all operations run smoothly.
- Troubleshoot complex rigging problems, making adjustments to plans and operations to address unforeseen challenges or safety concerns.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of rigging operations, including equipment usage, maintenance logs, load weights, and safety inspections.
- Ensure that all required reports, including safety checks, equipment inspections, and operational updates, are submitted to supervisors and project managers.
- Track rigging equipment inventory and report on the status of tools, materials, and supplies.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure that all rigging operations comply with legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in regular audits and safety reviews to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Assist in preparing and passing safety inspections and audits by providing necessary documentation and evidence of compliance.
Key Focus Areas:
Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.
Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.
Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.
Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in rigging or crane operation (e.g., NCCCO, API) is highly preferred.
- Additional certifications or training in safety (e.g., OSHA 30) and lifting operations are an advantage.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a rigger, with extensive knowledge of rigging equipment, load calculation, and heavy lifting procedures.
- Proven experience in leading and coordinating rigging teams, with a strong track record of safe, efficient operations on complex construction projects.
- Experience with large-scale industrial, construction, or offshore rigging operations is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in rigging methods, including load calculations, rigging techniques, and equipment handling.
- Strong knowledge of crane operation, rigging equipment, and materials handling.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, rigging plans, and safety documentation.
- In-depth understanding of safety regulations and industry standards related to rigging and lifting.
