Reliability Engineer – Fatigue and Life Analysis for Turbine Parts

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Reliability Engineer specializing in fatigue and life analysis of turbine components. The role involves leading reliability projects, driving innovation in durability assessment methods, and providing technical leadership to ensure the safety, longevity, and performance of turbine parts under complex cyclic and thermal loading conditions in aerospace, power generation, or industrial turbines.

Key Focus Areas:

    • Leadership in Fatigue and Life Analysis:
Lead and oversee advanced fatigue life assessments using analytical, numerical, and experimental methods to predict the lifespan and reliability of turbine blades, disks, shafts, and related components.

    • Durability & Reliability Strategy Development:
Develop and implement reliability strategies and models incorporating operational environments, material behavior, and manufacturing variability to guide design, maintenance, and lifecycle management.

    • Advanced Simulation & FEA:
Drive the use of finite element analysis (ANSYS, NASTRAN) and fatigue-specific software (nCode, fe-safe) for detailed stress/strain simulations, damage tolerance evaluations, and life prediction under multi-axial and thermomechanical loading.

    • Failure Investigation & Root Cause Analysis:
Lead complex investigations of fatigue and fracture failures, utilizing advanced microscopy, fractography, and material characterization to identify root causes and recommend design or process changes.

    • Cross-functional Leadership & Collaboration:
Collaborate with R&D, design, materials, manufacturing, and quality teams to integrate reliability considerations throughout product development and support continuous improvement initiatives.

    • Mentorship & Team Development:
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, promote best practices in reliability engineering, and contribute to building technical capabilities within the team.

    • Technical Reporting & Stakeholder Communication:
Prepare and present detailed technical reports, reliability assessments, risk analyses, and recommendations to leadership and customers. Support patent development and publication efforts.

Responsibilities:

    • Lead fatigue life and durability projects for turbine components.

    • Develop, validate, and apply advanced reliability models and testing protocols.

    • Perform root cause failure analyses and implement corrective actions.

    • Influence design decisions through reliability input and risk assessment.

    • Coordinate reliability activities across multiple departments and with external partners.

    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

    • Drive innovation in fatigue and life analysis methodologies.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.

    • 7+ years of hands-on experience in fatigue, durability, and life analysis of turbine or high-performance rotating components.

    • Deep expertise in fatigue failure mechanisms, fracture mechanics, and multi-physics simulation.

    • Proficiency with FEA and fatigue software tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, nCode, fe-safe).

    • Proven leadership and project management experience.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    • Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams.

Preferred:

    • Familiarity with turbine engine operational environments and maintenance strategies.

    • Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and prognostics.

    • Published technical papers or patents in fatigue and life analysis.

    • Experience with regulatory compliance and certification processes.
