Reliability Engineer – Fatigue and Life Analysis for Turbine Parts

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Reliability Engineer specializing in fatigue and life analysis of turbine components. This role involves performing detailed durability assessments, life predictions, and failure investigations to ensure the reliability and safety of turbine parts under complex cyclic loading conditions typical of aerospace and power generation applications.

Key Focus Areas:

    • Fatigue Life Assessment & Analysis:
Perform fatigue life evaluations of turbine blades, disks, shafts, and other critical components using stress-life (S-N), strain-life (ε-N), and fracture mechanics approaches to predict service life under operational loads.

    • Durability & Reliability Modeling:
Develop and refine life prediction models incorporating operational data, material properties, and environmental factors to support product design and maintenance planning.

    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) & Simulation:
Utilize FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, etc.) and fatigue-specific software (e.g., nCode, fe-safe) to simulate stress/strain cycles and evaluate damage accumulation.

    • Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation:
Lead or support investigations into fatigue-related failures, analyzing fracture surfaces, crack initiation, and propagation mechanisms to recommend design or process improvements.

    • Testing & Data Analysis:
Collaborate with testing teams to plan and interpret fatigue and durability tests, validate models, and integrate test data into reliability assessments.

    • Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work closely with design, materials, manufacturing, and quality teams to provide reliability insights that influence component design and lifecycle strategies.

    • Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare detailed technical reports, reliability assessments, and presentations for internal teams and external customers.

Responsibilities:

    • Conduct fatigue and life analysis of turbine components using advanced analytical and numerical methods.

    • Develop and maintain reliability models based on test data and operational feedback.

    • Perform root cause analysis on fatigue failures and recommend corrective actions.

    • Support design reviews with reliability input and risk assessments.

    • Coordinate with testing labs to ensure accurate data collection and interpretation.

    • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous process improvements.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

    • 3-7 years of experience in fatigue, durability, and life analysis of mechanical components, preferably turbine parts.

    • Proficiency with FEA software (ANSYS, NASTRAN) and fatigue analysis tools (nCode, fe-safe).

    • Strong knowledge of fatigue failure mechanisms, fracture mechanics, and life prediction methodologies.

    • Experience in failure analysis and root cause investigations.

    • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred:

    • Familiarity with turbine engine components and operating environments.

    • Experience with reliability standards and maintenance planning.

    • Knowledge of material properties and testing related to fatigue performance.
