The Quality Manager oversees quality assurance and control activities for mechanical systems and fabricated components used in marine applications, including propulsion systems, piping assemblies, HVAC units, hull structures, and auxiliary equipment. This role ensures products meet strict marine standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, IMO) and customer specifications through inspection coordination, process audits, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Manager leads a cross-functional quality team and works closely with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and classification societies to maintain compliance and deliver high-reliability systems.
Develop and implement quality strategies and inspection plans for mechanical systems and fabricated marine components
Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, USCG, and ISO 9001
Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections of machined, welded, and assembled products
Manage NCRs, perform root cause analyses (RCA), and lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes
Coordinate with welding inspectors, NDT technicians, and marine surveyors during fabrication and testing phases
Review and approve quality documentation including inspection reports, test records, MTRs, and weld traceability
Audit internal processes and suppliers for adherence to quality standards and marine codes
Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma, 5-Why, or FMEA methodologies
Train and develop quality inspectors and technicians to support shop floor quality assurance
Interface with customers and classification societies during FATs, audits, and contract compliance checks
Maintain calibration schedules, quality KPIs, and documentation for regulatory audits
Quality assurance for marine mechanical systems and structural fabrication

CAPA management and continuous quality improvement
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Metallurgy, or related technical field (required)
Certifications such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, AWS CWI, or ASQ CQE are preferred
Experience:
7+ years of experience in quality management within the marine, offshore, or heavy fabrication industry
Strong background in mechanical assemblies, welding, machining, and pressure vessel standards
Experience working with classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV) and marine certification bodies
Familiarity with ISO 9001, ASME, IMO, and marine-related QA documentation practices
Technical Skills:
Proficient with inspection tools, NDT methods, and QA software (e.g., QMS, SAP QM, Excel-based templates)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication specs
Knowledge of weld qualifications (WPS/PQR), hydrostatic testing, and dimensional inspection standards
