The Quality Control Manager – Welding, NDT, and Dimensional Inspections is responsible for managing and supervising all quality control activities related to welding processes, non-destructive testing (NDT), and dimensional verification of fabricated components and assemblies. This role ensures strict compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and classification society standards to maintain high-quality, traceable, and certifiable products across marine, offshore, or industrial fabrication projects.
Lead and manage the QC team responsible for welding inspections, NDT (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT), and dimensional control activities.
Oversee the qualification and documentation of welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welder certifications in accordance with ASME, AWS, ISO, or project-specific codes.
Ensure NDT operations are performed by certified personnel (ASNT, ISO 9712) and results are properly interpreted, documented, and archived.
Monitor dimensional inspections using conventional and digital tools to validate conformance to engineering drawings, tolerances, and alignment standards.
Review and approve inspection test plans (ITPs), inspection reports, weld maps, and material traceability documentation.
Coordinate with third-party inspectors, clients, and classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, LR, NAVSEA) for hold/witness points, audits, and final acceptance.
Maintain and improve the quality control process through audits, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support development and training of QC inspectors and welding/NDT personnel to uphold quality competence across shifts.
Interface closely with fabrication, welding, engineering, and QA departments to resolve technical and quality issues efficiently.
Ensure timely and complete turnover of quality documentation and dossiers during project closeout and client handover.
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
10+ years of QC experience in welding and NDT operations, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role.
AWS-CWI, CSWIP 3.1/3.2, or equivalent welding inspection certification.
NDT Level II or III certification in VT, UT, MT, PT (ASNT or ISO 9712).
Strong working knowledge of welding codes (ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 650/1104) and inspection standards.
Proficiency in interpreting fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and dimensional tolerances.
Strong leadership, organizational, and documentation skills.
Experience with naval, offshore, or pressure vessel fabrication projects.
Familiarity with digital QC platforms and quality management systems (QMS) like ISO 9001.
Knowledge of ERP/MRP or construction management tools (SAP, IFS, Procore, etc.).
Exposure to advanced NDT methods or digital dimensional control (e.g., laser scanning, total station, 3D metrology).
Based in fabrication shop, shipyard, or field environment with regular walkdowns and inspections.
Must wear PPE and comply with all safety and quality regulations.
May require flexible hours or night/weekend coverage during critical project phases.
Occasional travel to remote sites, vendor facilities, or third-party labs may be required.
