The Quality Control Manager – Fabricated Assemblies leads the QC function for all fabricated and assembled products—ensuring that weldments, machined parts, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies conform to engineering specifications, industry codes (ASME, API, AWS), and customer requirements. This role develops and enforces inspection processes, manages a team of inspectors, drives continuous improvement in defect prevention, and partners with production and engineering to uphold zero-defect standards.
QC Strategy & Leadership
Define and implement the QC roadmap for fabricated assemblies, including incoming material, in-process, and final inspections.
Build, coach, and manage a team of QC inspectors and technicians—establishing clear roles, KPIs, and development plans.
Process Development & Standardization
Create, validate, and maintain inspection procedures, checklists, and sampling plans for welding, machining, fit-up, and assembly.
Standardize use of measurement equipment (calipers, CMM, ultrasonic testers) and enforce calibration schedules.
Inspection & Testing Oversight
Oversee visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) programs: UT, MPI, DPI, RT as applicable.
Authorize or reject components through documented hold-points, ensuring traceability (heat numbers, serial IDs).
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure compliance to ASME Section VIII, AWS D1.1, API 6A/6D (for pressure parts), ISO 9001, and customer specifications.
Partner with QA engineering to lead root-cause investigations, CAPA, and corrective actions for recurring issues.
Continuous Improvement & Metrics
Track quality metrics (defect rates, rework, first-pass yield) and drive Lean/Six Sigma projects to reduce waste.
Facilitate regular quality reviews, audits, and management-level reporting on quality performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Procurement to resolve quality issues and drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements.
Support new product introductions (NPI) by establishing QC requirements during pilot runs.
Welded structures, pressure-containing assemblies, and complex sub-assemblies
Dimensional inspection and NDT program management
Quality system compliance (ISO 9001, customer QMS)
Team leadership, training, and performance management
Continuous improvement through data-driven analysis
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)
7+ years of quality control/assurance experience in a fabrication or assembly environment, with 3+ years in a supervisory/managerial role
Certification as CWI (AWS), NDT Level II/III, or ASME inspector
Experience with ERP/QMS software (SAP QM, IQMS, etc.) and statistical quality tools (SPC, MSA)
Lean/Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or equivalent process-improvement training
Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
Primarily shop-floor and inspection lab environment with frequent movement between work centers
Requires use of PPE and adherence to EHS policies
May involve extended hours during audits, customer visits, or peak production periods
