Quality Control Inspector – Fabricated Parts

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a Mid-Level Quality Control Inspector with experience in inspecting sheet metal and structural fabricated components. The candidate will be responsible for conducting dimensional, visual, and process inspections using standard tools and procedures, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.

Key Focus Areas:

1. In-Process and Final Inspection

    • Independently perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections of fabricated parts such as laser-cut, bent, punched, rolled, or welded components.

    • Verify dimensional accuracy, edge quality, flatness, bend angles, and part geometry.

2. Drawing & Specification Interpretation

    • Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication symbols, tolerances, and basic GD&T annotations.

    • Verify parts against job cards, control plans, and inspection standards.

3. Use of Measurement Tools & Gauges

    • Proficiently use vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle finders, thread gauges, and other relevant tools.

    • Conduct measurements with accuracy and document the results properly.

4. Defect Identification & Non-Conformance Management

    • Identify surface defects, dimensional deviations, poor fit-ups, or weld discontinuities.

    • Raise NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), assist in root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions with production.

5. Quality Documentation & Process Compliance

    • Maintain accurate inspection records, checklists, and logs for traceability.

    • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, customer-specific standards, and internal QMS procedures.

Responsibilities:

    • Inspect fabricated parts throughout production to ensure conformity to specifications.

    • Collaborate with production and welding teams to resolve quality issues.

    • Support calibration and care of inspection equipment.

    • Assist in internal audits, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), and continuous improvement activities.

    • Escalate persistent quality issues and recommend preventive actions.

Required Qualifications:

    • Diploma / ITI in Mechanical, Fabrication, Quality Control, or related field.

    • 2–5 years of hands-on quality inspection experience in fabrication or metalworking industry.

    • Ability to read fabrication drawings and use precision measurement instruments confidently.

Preferred Skills:

    • Exposure to GD&T, welding symbols, and bend allowance interpretation.

    • Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and weld visual inspection.

    • Experience in working under ISO 9001 / ASME / AWS quality systems.

    • Working knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, and basic root cause analysis tools (like 5 Why or Fishbone).
