Job Title: Quality Control Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Quality Control Engineer (Mid-Level) with experience in the automotive industry to ensure that all production processes and components meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting inspections, analyzing quality data, leading corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product reliability. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and experience with automotive quality management systems such as IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, OEM specifications, and customer requirements.
- Conduct internal and external audits to assess quality management system adherence.
- Work with suppliers to maintain quality consistency and improve incoming material quality.
Inspection & Testing:
- Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final product evaluations.
- Utilize coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments to ensure product compliance.
- Conduct dimensional analysis, material testing, and functional tests to validate automotive components.
Problem Solving & Corrective Actions:
- Investigate and analyze non-conformities, defects, and warranty claims using root cause analysis (RCA) techniques such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone Diagram.
- Implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and follow up on their effectiveness.
- Collaborate with design, production, and supply chain teams to resolve quality-related issues.
Process Improvement & Continuous Enhancement:
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize production processes and reduce defects.
- Monitor key quality performance indicators (KPIs) such as PPM (Parts Per Million), First Pass Yield, and Scrap Rate to drive improvements.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions for quality control processes.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation, and audit reports.
- Prepare quality reports, performance trend analyses, and presentations for management.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of quality control activities.
Collaboration & Training:
- Work closely with manufacturing, R&D, and supplier quality teams to enhance product quality.
- Train operators and technicians on quality standards, defect detection, and best practices.
- Support supplier development programs to ensure consistent quality in raw materials and components.
Key Focus Areas:
- Automotive Quality Standards: Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and OEM standards.
- Inspection & Testing: Use CMMs, SPC tools, and functional tests to verify product quality.
- Root Cause Analysis & CAPA: Investigate and resolve quality issues using 8D, 5-Why, and FMEA.
- Continuous Improvement: Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Supplier & Production Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to maintain quality standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in quality control or quality assurance in the automotive industry.
- Experience working in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier environment is a plus.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes (stamping, injection molding, welding, assembly, etc.).
- Proficiency in IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Hands-on experience with CMM, optical measuring systems, and hardness testers.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing defects and failures.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to detect inconsistencies in parts and processes.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple projects.
Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) – ASQ
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- IATF 16949 Lead Auditor Certification
- VDA 6.3 Process Auditor Certification
