Job Title: QC Technician – Weld and Surface Inspection

Job Summary:

The Senior QC Technician – Weld and Surface Inspection is responsible for advanced quality inspections of weld integrity, surface finishes, and dimensional accuracy of fabricated stainless steel process equipment used in sanitary food and beverage systems. This senior-level role ensures strict adherence to 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE, and customer specifications. The technician acts as a subject matter expert in weld quality, mentors junior inspectors, and works closely with engineering and fabrication leadership to resolve quality concerns and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead inspections of TIG/MIG welds and stainless steel surfaces to verify conformance with 3-A, ASME BPE, and internal quality standards.

  • Perform precision surface finish checks (e.g., Ra measurements) and internal weld evaluations using visual and remote tools (e.g., borescopes).

  • Interpret complex fabrication drawings, welding symbols, weld maps, and customer-specific quality documents.

  • Support quality planning, inspection protocol development, and first-article inspections (FAIs).

  • Identify and report non-conformances; lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Collaborate with welders, engineers, and supervisors to resolve quality issues and improve workmanship.

  • Mentor and train junior QC technicians, supporting inspection consistency and knowledge sharing.

  • Assist with internal and third-party audits and prepare traceability and inspection documentation.

  • Contribute to process improvements and standardization of fabrication quality control procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Technical certification or associate degree in welding, QA/QC, or mechanical fabrication strongly preferred

  • AWS-CWI or ASME Section IX weld inspection certification is a plus

Experience:

  • 6+ years of quality inspection experience in stainless steel or sanitary equipment fabrication

  • Proven track record in weld quality assessment and surface finish evaluation in a food-grade context

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of TIG/MIG weld inspection and sanitary fabrication standards (3-A, ASME BPE, USDA, FDA)

  • Skilled in dimensional metrology and visual/non-visual inspection methods

  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and analytical reporting

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, regulated environment
