The Mid-Level QC Technician – Weld and Surface Inspection is responsible for performing detailed inspections of weld quality, surface finishes, and dimensional compliance for stainless steel components used in sanitary process systems. This role supports compliance with 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE, and internal quality requirements. The technician collaborates with fabrication, welding, and QA teams to ensure finished equipment meets the standards required for food and beverage applications.
Conduct in-depth inspections of TIG/MIG welds, ensuring compliance with weld specifications, drawings, and sanitary requirements.
Measure and evaluate surface finish quality using profilometers, borescopes, and visual techniques.
Check dimensional accuracy using precision tools (e.g., calipers, height gauges, and measuring tapes).
Interpret fabrication drawings, weld maps, and customer specifications for inspection requirements.
Document findings, issue non-conformance reports (NCRs), and verify corrective actions.
Support internal audits and pre-shipment quality verification.
Train junior inspectors and assist in refining inspection procedures.
Interface with welders, shop supervisors, and engineers to resolve quality issues and improve fabrication consistency.
Ensure compliance with food safety fabrication standards (3-A, USDA, FDA), and good documentation practices (GDP).
High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical certification in welding inspection (e.g., AWS-CWI), fabrication, or quality control strongly preferred
3–5 years of experience in weld and surface inspection, ideally within food-grade or sanitary stainless fabrication environments
Proficient in interpreting fabrication/weld drawings and symbols
Familiarity with 3-A Sanitary Standards, ASME BPE, and clean-in-place (CIP) fabrication principles
