The Junior QC Technician – Weld and Surface Inspection performs visual and basic dimensional inspections of welds, joints, and stainless steel surfaces used in the fabrication of sanitary process equipment for the food and beverage industry. This entry-level role ensures that fabricated parts meet internal quality standards and food-grade surface finish requirements (e.g., 3-A, ASME BPE). The technician works under the guidance of senior QC staff and gains experience in sanitary fabrication quality processes.
Perform visual inspections of TIG and MIG welds on stainless steel process equipment and piping assemblies.
Inspect and document surface finishes for scratches, pits, weld discoloration, and contamination.
Verify conformance to fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and basic dimensional tolerances using hand tools.
Support traceability by recording inspection results and tagging components as required.
Identify and report non-conformities, assisting in root cause and corrective action processes.
Follow safety protocols and good manufacturing practices (GMP) in inspection activities.
Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and QA/QC team to ensure inspection readiness and rework completion.
Learn and follow industry standards including 3-A Sanitary, ASME BPE, and internal customer specifications.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical training in welding inspection, fabrication, or quality control preferred
0–2 years in a fabrication or quality inspection role, preferably in food-grade or stainless steel environments
Basic understanding of welding processes (TIG/MIG), weld joint types, and surface finish standards
Ability to read simple fabrication drawings and use measuring tools (e.g., calipers, gauges)
Detail-oriented with good visual acuity and hand-eye coordination
Strong documentation and communication skills
Willingness to learn industry codes and quality procedures
