QA/QC Supervisor – Turbine Maintenance

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior QA/QC Supervisor – Turbine Maintenance is responsible for leading and managing quality assurance and control activities related to the inspection, repair, and overhaul of gas and steam turbines. This position ensures adherence to all relevant technical specifications, international standards, OEM requirements, and client quality protocols throughout maintenance cycles, outages, and shutdowns.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the QA/QC function for all turbine maintenance operations, including pre-shutdown planning, execution, and post-maintenance reviews.

  • Develop and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Control Procedures (QCPs), and job-specific quality strategies.

  • Conduct and supervise detailed inspections on turbine components: rotors, blades, bearings, seals, casings, diaphragms, couplings, etc.

  • Oversee NDT operations (UT, PT, MT, RT) and coordinate with Level II/III technicians and third-party inspectors.

  • Verify compliance with OEM standards, ASME/API codes, ISO 9001 requirements, and client specifications.

  • Review and approve welding procedures (WPS, PQR) and qualifications of welders (WPQ) related to turbine piping and casing repairs.

  • Manage and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Deficiency Reports (DRs), and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

  • Ensure proper calibration and traceability of measuring and testing equipment.

  • Prepare comprehensive QA/QC documentation including inspection reports, torque logs, clearance records, and final data packages.

  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring issues and drive quality improvement initiatives.

  • Mentor and train junior QA/QC staff and technicians, building internal capability and audit readiness.


Key Focus Areas:

Turbine Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure critical inspections are executed with precision, especially during alignment, torquing, clearance setting, and reassembly.

  • Monitor quality of all work done during hot gas path inspections, major overhauls, and emergent repairs.

  • Maintain strict control over consumables, fasteners, and materials used during turbine work.

🛠️ Documentation & Audits

  • Own and manage the full QA documentation lifecycle for turbine maintenance activities.

  • Facilitate internal and external audits; ensure the site is always audit-ready.

  • Deliver final quality dossiers, test packages, and turnover documents.

🧩 NDT & Material Traceability

  • Validate NDT reports, heat numbers, mill certificates, PMI, and hardness test reports.

  • Coordinate rework and inspection of replaced or repaired components as per OEM guidelines.

🔄 Outage and Shutdown Support

  • Actively lead quality activities during major turnarounds and turbine outages.

  • Coordinate quality checkpoints across teams and ensure readiness for OEM sign-offs.

🤝 Stakeholder & Vendor Interface

  • Liaise with OEM reps, project engineers, HSE teams, and contractors to align QA efforts with turbine scope.

  • Act as the QA/QC focal point for clients during technical reviews and final acceptance stages.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience: 8–12 years in QA/QC, with minimum 5 years focused on turbine maintenance.

  • Industry Background: Power generation, Oil & Gas, EPC, heavy rotating equipment.


Core Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of gas/steam turbine construction, repair, and OEM standards.

  • Advanced understanding of QA/QC systems, ISO 9001, ASME Sec. VIII, API 610/611/612.

  • Expertise in interpreting technical drawings, OEM manuals, P&IDs, and ITPs.

  • Strong leadership, team supervision, and mentoring capabilities.

  • Excellent reporting, documentation, and communication skills.


Working Conditions:

  • Site-based role requiring physical presence in turbine halls, confined spaces, and high-noise areas.

  • May involve shift work, extended hours during outages, and weekend availability.

  • PPE and strict adherence to site HSE protocols are mandatory.
