QA/QC Manager – Fabrication

Roles & Responsibilities

The QA/QC Manager – Fabrication is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality system across fabrication processes. This role ensures that all fabricated components, assemblies, and modules meet project specifications, international standards, and customer expectations. The manager will oversee inspection activities, manage document control, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to quality in fabrication.


Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Planning & Strategy

  • Develop and implement quality plans, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), and welding procedures.

  • Establish QA/QC protocols in line with project specs and applicable codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).

  • Define inspection stages, acceptance criteria, and quality documentation requirements.

2. Inspection Oversight

  • Supervise stage-wise inspections (fit-up, welding, dimensional, painting, final release).

  • Manage NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT) and ensure coordination with certified NDT personnel.

  • Approve inspection reports and clearances before component dispatch.

3. Welding Quality Management

  • Monitor WPS/PQR/WQT approvals and compliance.

  • Ensure welders are qualified and maintain continuity records.

  • Review weld maps and traceability of weld joints.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain QA/QC records: material certificates, welding logs, NDT reports, inspection dossiers.

  • Prepare and submit final Quality Dossiers / Manufacturing Data Records (MDR) to clients.

  • Participate in client audits, third-party inspections (TPI), and resolve NCRs (non-conformance reports).

5. Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of QA/QC engineers, inspectors, NDT technicians, and document controllers.

  • Assign responsibilities, review performance, and ensure effective quality surveillance.

  • Conduct regular quality toolbox talks and training sessions.

6. Compliance & Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 3834, and customer-specific standards.

  • Conduct internal quality audits and drive corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone).

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Education:

    • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Welding Engineering

  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 / AWS-CWI

    • ASNT Level II (UT, RT, MT, PT)

    • Lead Auditor ISO 9001 (QMS)

    • ISO 3834 and PED awareness is a plus

  • Experience:

    • 10–20 years in QA/QC roles with at least 5 years in fabrication-focused QA/QC management

    • Hands-on experience in fabrication of pressure vessels, skids, piping, or structural modules

  • Skills:

    • Deep understanding of welding processes and inspection techniques

    • Strong leadership and documentation skills

    • ERP or fabrication tracking system knowledge (SAP, SmartPlant, etc.)
