We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication to lead quality assurance and control operations for projects involving storage tanks, pressure vessels, and piping systems fabricated to API 650, API 653, and ASME codes. This role includes oversight of inspection teams, welding quality assurance, third-party coordination, and documentation management to ensure full compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
Lead the development and implementation of Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation.
Oversee all stage-wise inspections (fit-up, welding, post-weld, dimensional checks, NDT, hydrotesting) and ensure proper documentation.
Ensure strict compliance with API 650, API 653, ASME Section VIII/IX, and applicable client specifications.
Supervise and guide QA/QC inspectors and junior engineers in daily quality activities.
Manage NDT coordination, review of reports, and technical validation of inspection findings.
Conduct and lead internal and external audits, client inspections, and third-party inspections.
Lead the management of non-conformance reports (NCRs), root cause analysis (RCA), and implementation of corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Ensure material traceability, review of MTCs, consumables control, and welding history logs.
Ensure timely compilation and delivery of QA documentation, including data books and client handover packages.
Act as a technical interface between the quality department and clients, consultants, and contractors.
Code Mastery: Deep and practical knowledge of API 650 (tank construction), API 653 (in-service inspection), and ASME Section VIII/IX.
Welding Quality Leadership: Oversight of weld quality, procedure qualifications, and welder performance tracking.
Inspection Planning: Ownership of inspection scheduling, ITP execution, and coordination with project timelines.
NDT Oversight: Expertise in coordinating and validating radiographic, ultrasonic, and surface NDT methods (RT, UT, MPI, DPI).
Team Leadership: Mentoring and supervising junior QA/QC staff; supporting their development and ensuring compliance.
Client & TPI Coordination: Managing relationships with third-party inspectors and client representatives during inspections and audits.
Quality Documentation: Ensuring accuracy and completeness of all QA/QC records, including final dossiers and data books.
Regulatory Compliance: Maintaining alignment with safety, environmental, and quality standards in fabrication yards or field sites.
Continuous Improvement: Driving improvements in QA/QC procedures, documentation, and inspection efficiency.
Audit Readiness: Ensuring fabrication activities are audit-ready at all times.
Educational Background:
B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or equivalent.
Certifications:
NDT Level II (VT, MPI, DPI; RT/UT preferred).
API 650 / API 653 certification (preferred or working knowledge).
Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, IX, and AWS D1.1 standards.
ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor (preferred).
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of QA/QC experience in fabrication of tanks, pressure vessels, piping, or structural steel.
Proven experience in handling third-party and client inspections.
Demonstrated leadership in managing QA/QC teams and interfacing with production and engineering departments.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent knowledge of fabrication and welding techniques (SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW).
Proficient in reading engineering drawings, isometrics, and welding symbols.
Strong communication, reporting, and documentation skills.
Proficient with QA software tools, MS Office, and quality management systems.
Ability to work under pressure, meet project deadlines, and manage multiple quality deliverables.
