QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication (API 650, 653, ASME)

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated Junior QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication to support quality assurance and quality control activities in the fabrication of pressure vessels, storage tanks, and structural components in line with API 650, API 653, and ASME codes. This role is ideal for freshers or engineers with basic fabrication experience looking to develop expertise in QA/QC processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing QA/QC plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and project quality documentation.

  • Monitor fabrication activities to ensure adherence to drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.

  • Perform stage-wise inspections under supervision (fit-up, welding, dimensional, visual, and final inspection).

  • Support the inspection of welds and base materials using visual and basic NDT methods (if certified).

  • Help maintain quality records, including material certificates, welding logs, inspection reports, and traceability documents.

  • Coordinate with the production, welding, and NDT teams for inspection readiness.

  • Participate in receiving inspections of raw materials, consumables, and purchased components.

  • Assist in reviewing WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation for compliance with ASME/API standards.

  • Support internal audits, NCR handling, and documentation of corrective/preventive actions.

  • Learn and implement quality standards, codes, and company procedures on the shop floor.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Code Familiarity: Basic understanding of API 650 (welded storage tanks), API 653 (tank inspection), and ASME Section VIII / IX (pressure vessels and welding).

  • Inspection Support: Involvement in stage-wise inspections and quality monitoring of fabrication processes.

  • Documentation: Collection and management of quality documentation for project records and traceability.

  • Welding QA/QC: Exposure to welding processes, WPS/PQRs, and weld defect types.

  • Quality Reporting: Assist in generating and updating quality reports and inspection records.

  • Team Coordination: Work collaboratively with QA/QC seniors, production supervisors, and NDT teams.

  • Compliance Orientation: Support compliance with safety, quality, and customer-specific standards.

  • Learning & Growth: Proactive participation in training, audits, and quality system improvements.


Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:

    • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.

  • Preferred Certifications (Optional but Advantageous):

    • Basic NDT Level I/II (VT, MPI, DPI)

    • Familiarity with API and ASME documentation (e.g., API 650/653 awareness, ASME IX welding procedures)

  • Other Requirements:

    • 0–2 years of experience in QA/QC or fabrication inspection.

    • Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding symbols.

    • Good communication and documentation skills.

    • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) and basic QA/QC software or reporting formats.

    • Physically fit to work in shop floor or project site environments.

    • Willingness to learn, work under supervision, and travel when required.
