Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Pump and Piping Systems Engineer supports the design, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems involving pumps, piping networks, valves, and related components. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role assists in system layout, equipment selection, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of fluid handling systems in industrial and utility facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Pump and Piping System Design Support:

  • Assist in creating layout drawings, P&IDs, and isometric diagrams for pump and piping systems.

  • Support in hydraulic calculations including pressure drop, flow rate, and NPSH requirements.

  • Participate in equipment sizing and material selection under supervision.

2. Equipment Selection & Documentation:

  • Assist in preparing technical specifications for pumps, valves, fittings, and piping.

  • Work with vendors and procurement teams to gather and review technical submittals and datasheets.

  • Support review of vendor drawings and BOMs.

3. Installation & Commissioning Assistance:

  • Support field teams during installation, alignment, and commissioning of pumps and piping systems.

  • Participate in inspection and testing activities (e.g., hydrotesting, alignment checks, vibration measurements).

4. Maintenance & Troubleshooting Support:

  • Assist maintenance teams in diagnosing pump and piping system issues such as leakage, cavitation, vibration, or misalignment.

  • Help document and track maintenance activities and performance data.

5. Standards & Compliance:

  • Develop familiarity with industry standards such as ASME B31.3, API 610, ANSI, and ISO.

  • Ensure engineering activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

6. Technical Reporting & Records:

  • Maintain engineering logs, technical records, and system documentation.

  • Draft basic reports, technical notes, and maintenance logs for internal use.

  1. Pump Selection, Installation, and Performance Monitoring

  2. Piping Layout, Hydraulic Analysis, and Material Identification

  3. Basic Troubleshooting of Mechanical Flow Systems (Cavitation, Leaks, Vibration)

  4. Technical Documentation, Vendor Coordination, and Drawing Review

  5. Field Support During Commissioning and Testing Activities

  6. Familiarity with Standards: API 610, ASME B31.3, ANSI, ISO

  7. Safety Awareness and Cross-Disciplinary Coordination


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 0–3 years of experience or internship in pump systems, piping, or industrial mechanical engineering.

  • Exposure to fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and rotating equipment.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or piping design software is an advantage.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interest in mechanical systems and rotating equipment

  • Basic understanding of fluid systems and hydraulic behavior

  • Good documentation and communication skills

  • Willingness to work in field and plant environments

  • Ability to learn and apply engineering codes and standards
