We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Senior Pump Mechanic / Technician to lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of industrial pump systems. This role demands advanced expertise in pump technologies, alignment techniques, performance diagnostics, and team mentoring. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maximizing equipment reliability and supporting the continuous operation of plant systems.
Lead and execute advanced repairs, overhauls, and alignment of pumps including centrifugal, screw, gear, diaphragm, submersible, and vacuum pumps.
Oversee and ensure correct installation, shaft alignment, and commissioning of pump and motor assemblies.
Conduct root cause analysis of recurrent or complex pump failures and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.
Perform precision measurements and tolerancing using micrometers, calipers, laser alignment tools, and dial indicators.
Monitor pump system performance, interpret flow/pressure data, and support predictive maintenance (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.).
Mentor and train junior and mid-level technicians on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and troubleshooting methods.
Coordinate with planning and reliability teams to optimize maintenance schedules and reduce downtime.
Ensure maintenance documentation and work orders are accurately recorded in CMMS systems.
Uphold all plant safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permits.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Identify and resolve complex pump-related issues using technical expertise and diagnostic tools.
Precision Installation & Alignment
Ensure flawless pump installation and alignment using laser tools and OEM specifications to reduce vibration and wear.
Root Cause Analysis & Reliability
Lead investigations into equipment failures and drive long-term reliability improvements.
Team Leadership & Training
Support skill development in junior staff through coaching, mentoring, and quality control of repairs.
Maintenance Strategy & Documentation
Collaborate on preventive and predictive maintenance plans and ensure comprehensive documentation through CMMS.
Technical diploma, trade certification, or degree in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Fitting, or Pump Technology.
5+ years of relevant experience working with industrial pump systems in a manufacturing, utility, or processing environment.
Proficient in laser alignment, pump system balancing, mechanical sealing systems, and rotating equipment diagnostics.
In-depth understanding of pump types, configurations, failure modes, and performance characteristics.
Skilled in reading engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination abilities.
Competent in using CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, etc.) for planning and reporting maintenance activities.
Certified Pump Technician / Journeyman Millwright / Red Seal (as applicable)
Laser alignment certification (e.g., Pruftechnik, VibrAlign)
Training in predictive maintenance technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography)
OSHA or equivalent safety certifications
Crane, forklift, or rigging certification (if required)
Heavy industrial or plant setting with regular exposure to rotating equipment, lubricants, high noise levels, and heat.
Physically demanding role requiring lifting, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces or at height.
May involve shift rotation, emergency callouts, and plant shutdown assignments.
