Roles & Responsibilities

The Project Manager – Turbine Installations/Overhauls is responsible for the end-to-end execution of turbine projects, including installation, major overhauls, retrofits, or upgrades. The role includes project planning, site management, client coordination, contractor oversight, and ensuring delivery of the project within scope, budget, and safety standards. The Project Manager leads multidisciplinary teams across field sites and ensures compliance with technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning & Execution

  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans for turbine installation, outage, or overhaul campaigns.

  • Define work scope, timelines, resources, and risk mitigation strategies in alignment with client and contractual requirements.

2. Site Management

  • Lead on-site execution activities including erection, alignment, commissioning, disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of gas/steam turbines and auxiliaries.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental regulations during field activities.

3. Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the single point of contact with clients, OEMs, and contractors throughout project execution.

  • Conduct regular progress reviews, resolve site issues, and ensure client satisfaction.

4. Resource & Contractor Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, technicians, riggers, OEM specialists, and subcontractors.

  • Validate resource planning, mobilization, and tooling readiness in advance of site execution.

5. Cost & Schedule Control

  • Track project costs, work hours, and milestones; issue daily/weekly reports and identify variances from plan.

  • Drive on-time, within-budget delivery while managing change orders and scope deviations.

6. Technical Oversight

  • Review and interpret OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and technical procedures.

  • Approve inspection reports, clearance checks, and performance validation during commissioning.

7. Documentation & Closeout

  • Ensure timely submission of project documentation such as punch lists, inspection reports, QA/QC documents, and final completion certificates.

  • Lead lessons learned sessions and contribute to continuous improvement.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Turbine Platforms: Heavy-duty gas turbines (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi), steam turbines (condensing & backpressure), aero-derivative turbines.

  • Project Types: Greenfield installation, major outages, upgrades (hot gas path, controls), life extension, decommissioning.

  • Field Services Scope: Alignment, blading, bearing inspections, rotor balancing, valve tuning, borescope inspections.

  • Project Tools: Primavera/MS Project, SAP/Oracle for scheduling and reporting.

  • EHS Compliance: Strict adherence to OSHA, HSE, and LOTO procedures during high-risk activities.

  • Contract & Scope Management: Change order handling, scope validation, client approvals.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Experience: 8–15+ years in turbine field projects, with 3+ years in project management roles.

  • Certifications (Preferred): PMP®, NEBOSH/OSHA HSE Training, API 686, Six Sigma, OEM turbine training certifications (e.g., GE Level I/II).

  • Tools & Systems: Proficiency in MS Project/Primavera, CMMS, QA/QC systems, OEM documentation.

  • Soft Skills: Leadership under pressure, cross-cultural team management, communication, contract handling, and field decision-making.
