The Project Manager – HVAC Installations on Ships/Offshore Platforms oversees the complete lifecycle of HVAC installation projects aboard ships and offshore structures. This role ensures that scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements are met while coordinating with shipyards, engineering teams, vendors, and classification authorities to deliver reliable and regulation-compliant climate control systems.
Plan, coordinate, and manage end-to-end installation, integration, and commissioning of HVAC systems on vessels or offshore platforms.
Lead the project team through design handover, procurement, installation, testing, and client acceptance.
Ensure all HVAC installations conform to marine/offshore safety, quality, and classification standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, SOLAS, IMO, API).
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, manpower plans, and cost control strategies.
Manage relationships with shipyard representatives, subcontractors, system suppliers, and classification inspectors.
Conduct site inspections, progress tracking, and technical reviews to ensure proper execution of ducting, chilled water piping, air handling units, fans, and control systems.
Address field engineering issues, lead change management processes, and resolve technical conflicts on-site.
Ensure correct installation practices for corrosion-resistant HVAC materials, vibration isolation, sealing, and pressure balancing.
Monitor safety and environmental compliance in accordance with company and industry HSE standards.
Coordinate FAT/SAT activities, commissioning plans, and final handover documentation.
Maintain project records, risk logs, and issue registers for effective reporting and accountability.
Marine/Offshore HVAC Execution Expertise
Deliver projects involving high-spec HVAC systems under challenging shipboard or offshore conditions.
Project Delivery and Controls
Manage scope, cost, schedule, and resources to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
Technical Compliance and Classification
Ensure HVAC installations are aligned with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification society standards.
Stakeholder and Subcontractor Coordination
Interface with internal engineering, procurement, vendors, and field teams for seamless execution.
Commissioning and Turnover
Oversee full functional testing, verification, and client sign-off for HVAC performance under marine operating conditions.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Marine, or HVAC Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
8+ years of project experience, with at least 4+ years managing HVAC or MEP installations in marine or offshore environments.
Solid understanding of HVAC systems including chillers, AHUs, ducting, dampers, VAVs, and control systems.
Familiarity with classification society requirements (ABS, DNV, BV), HSE regulations, and offshore safety standards (e.g., API RP 14C, IECEx).
Proven ability to lead field installation teams, manage subcontractors, and resolve on-site conflicts.
Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, ERP systems).
Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
PMP, Prince2, or equivalent Project Management Certification.
Offshore survival training (e.g., BOSIET) for platform-based roles.
Experience in both newbuild and retrofit HVAC installation projects.
Knowledge of HVAC balancing, automation integration, and commissioning protocols.
