Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Powertrain Build Supervisor supports the supervision and coordination of daily powertrain assembly activities, including engines, transmissions, and related subassemblies. The role involves assisting in line management, monitoring quality standards, ensuring adherence to processes, and supporting production efficiency. This entry-level leadership role is ideal for someone looking to grow into a supervisory position in the powertrain manufacturing domain.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising daily powertrain assembly operations across designated stations.

  • Monitor operator performance and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Coordinate availability of components, tools, and documentation required for build activities.

  • Support quality inspections for in-process and final assembly checks.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, PPE usage, and workplace cleanliness.

  • Escalate assembly, tooling, or quality issues to the senior supervisor or engineering team.

  • Maintain accurate records of build data, production status, and issue logs.

  • Participate in team meetings and provide feedback on process bottlenecks or improvement ideas.

  • Support training and onboarding of new technicians and operators.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Powertrain Subassembly Supervision
    (Assist with coordination of engine block, cylinder head, transmission, and driveline builds)

  • Quality and Torque Compliance
    (Support visual inspection, torque checks, and use of error-proofing tools)

  • Tooling & Equipment Readiness
    (Ensure hand tools, fixtures, and torque wrenches are functional and calibrated)

  • Process Adherence
    (Ensure operators follow build manuals, SOPs, and use correct components)

  • Safety and Shop Floor Discipline
    (Reinforce safety rules, hazard reporting, and 5S practices)

  • Production Monitoring
    (Track build progress, report delays or rework, and assist in real-time issue resolution)


Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Production Engineering.

  • 0–2 years of experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment (internships count).

  • Basic knowledge of engine/transmission components and mechanical assembly practices.

  • Familiarity with torque tools, mechanical fasteners, and quality inspection basics.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to automotive or powertrain assembly environments.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, 5S, or basic problem-solving tools (Fishbone, 5 Why).

  • Ability to interpret basic mechanical drawings or build instructions.

  • Basic ERP or MES system familiarity is a plus.
