This role involves performing detailed diagnostics, ensuring accurate valve performance, and contributing to the reliability and safety of industrial operations in sectors like pharmaceutical, food and beverage, chemical, or manufacturing.

The technician works both independently and as part of a maintenance team, applying mechanical and pneumatic knowledge to sustain process performance and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Maintenance and Repair of Pneumatic Control Valves and Actuators

  2. Valve Testing, Calibration, and Function Verification

  3. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics of Pneumatic Systems

  4. Documentation, Compliance, and Safety Procedures

  5. Support for System Improvements and Technician Training

Key Responsibilities:

1. Valve Maintenance and Servicing

    • Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on pneumatic control valves, including cleaning, lubricating, and part replacement.

    • Maintain various actuator types (spring-return, double-acting, electro-pneumatic) and related hardware (positioners, I/P converters, solenoids).

    • Ensure valves are properly aligned, leak-free, and responsive to control signals.

2. Testing and Calibration

    • Conduct valve stroke checks and response time evaluations.

    • Calibrate control valves using handheld communicators or loop simulators.

    • Document test results, calibration settings, and as-found/as-left conditions.

3. System Troubleshooting and Support

    • Diagnose operational issues such as sticking valves, actuator failure, or signal loss.

    • Interpret pneumatic schematics, loop drawings, and control diagrams.

    • Collaborate with instrument engineers and automation teams during complex system faults.

4. Compliance and Documentation

    • Maintain accurate service records and calibration reports in the CMMS or digital logbooks.

    • Ensure all work complies with site SOPs, GMP (if applicable), and safety protocols.

    • Support audit readiness with proper documentation and tagging practices.

5. Mentorship and Continuous Improvement

    • Assist junior technicians by providing training and supervision on valve basics and safety.

    • Participate in system improvement projects involving valve performance and air system efficiency.

    • Recommend spare parts stocking and suggest equipment upgrades where needed.

Required Qualifications:

    • Diploma or certification in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, or Mechanical Technology.

    • 2–5 years of hands-on experience maintaining pneumatic valve systems in an industrial setting.

    • Familiarity with common valve brands (e.g., Fisher, Burkert, Samson, Emerson, ASCO).

Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with valve positioners (electro-pneumatic or digital) and calibration tools.

    • Ability to use CMMS software and interpret control system drawings.

    • Basic understanding of PLC inputs/outputs and how they relate to valve function.
