Plant Maintenance Supervisor (Mechanical)

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

To lead mechanical maintenance operations in the plant by overseeing a team of technicians and supervisors. The role ensures uninterrupted plant operations through timely and efficient maintenance of mechanical systems, focuses on reliability improvement, safety compliance, and cost-effective maintenance practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision of Mechanical Maintenance

    • Oversee the mechanical maintenance of plant equipment including pumps, gearboxes, compressors, conveyors, and utility systems.

    • Monitor work execution for quality, safety, and timeliness.

  2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

    • Plan and implement preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) schedules.

    • Analyze equipment health using condition monitoring techniques and take preemptive measures.

  3. Breakdown Management & Troubleshooting

    • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime.

    • Analyze failure patterns and implement corrective actions.

  4. Team Leadership & Training

    • Supervise, guide, and evaluate the performance of junior supervisors, technicians, and contract workers.

    • Conduct technical and safety training sessions to upskill the team.

  5. Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

    • Conduct root cause analysis for critical equipment failures and repeated issues.

    • Drive the implementation of permanent corrective solutions.

  6. Safety & Compliance

    • Enforce safety protocols and procedures during all maintenance activities.

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company safety standards.

  7. Inventory & Spare Parts Management

    • Manage and monitor spare parts inventory and raise requisitions for critical components.

    • Coordinate with procurement and stores for timely availability of materials.

  8. Maintenance Documentation

    • Maintain maintenance logs, job reports, and equipment history using CMMS/ERP systems.

    • Report key performance metrics such as MTTR, MTBF, and equipment uptime.

  9. Coordination & Communication

    • Collaborate with production, quality, and electrical/instrumentation teams for maintenance planning.

    • Participate in shutdown planning and new equipment installation.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering


Experience:

  • 8–12 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or process plant

  • Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory or senior role


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills

  • Good knowledge of rotary and static equipment

  • Familiarity with maintenance software (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, or other CMMS)

  • Effective leadership and team management

  • Knowledge of HSE standards and audit practices

  • Strong coordination, communication, and reporting abilities
