The Mid-Level Pipefitter installs, maintains, and troubleshoots complex piping networks and mechanical assemblies in water treatment and distribution facilities. This role works independently on moderately complex projects—fabricating spools, aligning and installing pumps, valves and chemical feed systems—while mentoring junior fitters and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Piping System Installation & Alignment
Lay out, cut, thread, bend, and weld pipe (carbon steel, stainless, PVC, HDPE) per P&IDs and isometric drawings.
Precisely align and bolt up pumps, filters, chemical injection skids, and high-pressure piping loops.
Fabrication & Modification
Fabricate custom spools, bypass lines, sample lines, and temporary jumpers in the shop or field.
Modify and reroute existing pipe runs to accommodate new equipment or process changes.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
Conduct scheduled inspections of flanges, joints, supports, and anchors; replace gaskets, seals, and worn components.
Diagnose and repair leaks, misalignments, and vibration issues; perform hot-tap and line-stop procedures when needed.
Shutdowns & Turnaround Support
Lead fit-up and teardown of critical piping during planned outages; supervise pressure-testing, flushing, and reinstatement of service.
Coordinate closely with operations and safety to execute LOTO, confined-space entry, and purge protocols.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests; document results and ensure compliance with ASME B31.3 and project specs.
Inspect welds (visual, dye-penetrant, magnetic particle) and collaborate with QA/QC on NCRs.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce and model strict adherence to hot-work permits, LOTO, PPE, and confined-space procedures.
Mentor junior crew on safe practices and participate in hazard assessments.
Documentation & Mentoring
Record work orders, material usage, test data, and as-built changes in the CMMS and project logs.
Coach apprentices and entry-level fitters on layout techniques, tool use, and drawing interpretation.
