The Packaging Line Engineering Manager leads the engineering team responsible for the design, maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of packaging lines and associated mechanical systems. This role ensures packaging equipment operates reliably, efficiently, and meets quality and safety standards. The manager collaborates closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to drive packaging innovation, reduce downtime, and support new product launches.
Lead engineering efforts for packaging machinery including fillers, labelers, conveyors, cartoners, case packers, and palletizers.
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance strategies for packaging equipment.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automation issues impacting packaging line performance.
Drive continuous improvement projects targeting OEE, line speed, changeover times, and quality yield.
Implement Lean, TPM, and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance packaging operations.
Coordinate root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring failures.
Lead engineering design, vendor selection, installation, and commissioning of new packaging equipment and line upgrades.
Collaborate with R&D and Production for new product packaging trials and validations.
Manage project budgets, timelines, and technical specifications.
Supervise and develop a team of packaging engineers and technicians.
Provide technical guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Foster a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork within the engineering group.
Partner with Quality to ensure packaging equipment complies with food safety and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, FSMA).
Work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, and Maintenance to align on production goals and priorities.
Engage with vendors and contractors to resolve technical issues and optimize equipment performance.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline
Experience:
7+ years in packaging engineering or manufacturing engineering roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity
Experience with packaging machinery common in F&B, CPG, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
Proven success managing capital projects and process improvements
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of packaging line machinery and automation systems
Proficiency in CAD, P&IDs, and maintenance management systems
Familiarity with food safety standards and sanitary equipment design

Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
