Job Title: Junior NDT Specialist – Weld Inspection (RT, UT, MT, PT)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Junior NDT Specialist to support non-destructive testing (NDT) activities focused on weld quality verification in power plant construction and maintenance projects. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates with foundational training in NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT) who are looking to grow in the inspection and quality assurance domain. You will assist senior NDT technicians and QA/QC engineers in conducting tests, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

NDT Support Activities

  • Assist in performing radiographic (RT), ultrasonic (UT), magnetic particle (MT), and dye penetrant (PT) testing on welded joints and pressure parts.

  • Prepare test areas by cleaning surfaces, applying penetrants or magnetic powders, and positioning probes or film.

  • Support in interpreting basic indications under supervision and assist in marking weld defects.

Inspection Documentation

  • Help maintain inspection logs, film records, calibration reports, and defect maps.

  • Record basic measurements and observations during NDT sessions.

  • Tag weld joints and components based on acceptance or repair status.

Equipment Handling & Maintenance

  • Handle NDT equipment carefully, ensuring cleanliness and proper storage after use.

  • Assist in calibration checks and routine maintenance of NDT tools and gauges.

  • Support safe transportation and use of radiographic sources under supervision.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all safety protocols related to radiation, electrical hazards, and confined space entry.

  • Wear appropriate PPE during inspections and support safety briefings or toolbox talks.

  • Comply with site-specific safety and quality regulations during test execution.

Learning & Development

  • Participate in on-the-job training (OJT) for NDT Level I/II certifications.

  • Shadow senior inspectors to gain understanding of code compliance (ASME, AWS, API).

  • Develop familiarity with welding processes and typical defects in power plant environments.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Assist in NDT operations (RT, UT, MT, PT) on welds and pipe joints

  • Accurate tagging, documentation, and test setup

  • Equipment care and radiographic safety adherence

  • On-the-job training and technical skill development under senior supervision

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or equivalent technical field

  • Completed formal training in NDT methods (ASNT Level I or II – preferred or in progress)

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in welding inspection or industrial NDT (internships included)

  • Exposure to fabrication shops, power plant construction, or similar settings is advantageous

Skills:

  • Basic understanding of weld joint types and NDT methods

  • Ability to follow written procedures and quality standards

  • Attention to detail, good observation skills, and willingness to learn

  • Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
