We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Metallurgical Engineer to lead material engineering efforts across fabrication processes involving welding, machining, heat treatment, and forming. The role demands deep technical knowledge in metallurgy and hands-on leadership in material specification, process development, quality control, and failure analysis. You will play a critical role in defining material strategies, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across departments to deliver durable, efficient, and cost-effective fabrication solutions.
Lead material selection for structural, thermal, wear-resistant, and corrosion-critical applications.
Develop advanced material specifications, alloy performance maps, and sourcing strategies.
Evaluate material trade-offs to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Provide expert-level guidance on welding procedures (e.g., MIG, TIG, laser, friction stir), including WPS and PQR development.
Lead design and validation of complex heat treatment and post-weld stress relief processes.
Develop and optimize joining techniques for dissimilar materials and high-strength alloys.
Direct failure investigations and root cause analyses involving material fatigue, fracture, corrosion, or thermal degradation.
Supervise laboratory testing programs (hardness, tensile, microstructure, impact, creep, etc.) and interpret results for design and production teams.
Define inspection protocols, quality benchmarks, and compliance measures for materials and weld integrity.
Ensure adherence to international codes and standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, AWS, ISO, NADCAP).
Mentor metallurgical and process engineers; lead technical reviews and decision-making sessions.
Collaborate with design, mechanical, and production teams to influence system-level design for materials performance.
Interface with suppliers, customers, and certifying bodies on technical materials and process topics.
Drive metallurgical innovation and standardization across fabrication projects.
Review and approve material selections, joining methods, and thermal processes.
Lead materials risk assessments and mitigation strategies in early-stage designs.
Support customer and regulatory audits related to materials engineering.
Continuously evaluate emerging materials, coatings, and fabrication technologies for integration.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
7+ years of experience in metallurgical roles within fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy engineering sectors.
Expert knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, weld metallurgy, and heat treatment.
Strong background in metallurgical lab practices, failure analysis, and data interpretation.
Working knowledge of international materials standards and codes (ASTM, ASME, AWS, ISO, etc.).
Certifications such as CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or AWS SCWI.
Experience in high-performance fabrication environments (e.g., aerospace, oil & gas, shipbuilding, additive manufacturing).
Familiarity with digital materials databases, FEA material modeling, and predictive materials performance tools.
Experience working with robotic welding, laser cutting, or automated fabrication systems.
