The Junior Mechanical Testing Technician supports the setup, execution, and documentation of mechanical tests on various types of industrial or automotive valves. This role involves operating test rigs, preparing samples, recording measurements, and ensuring all tests are conducted according to relevant procedures and safety standards.
Assist in performing mechanical tests on valve components including strength, endurance, fatigue, leakage, flow rate, and dimensional checks.
Set up and operate standard testing equipment such as hydraulic/pneumatic benches, endurance rigs, hardness testers, and universal testing machines (UTM).
Record test parameters, monitor equipment performance, and report anomalies during testing.
Perform basic inspections on valve parts before and after testing, including visual checks, wear analysis, and dimensional verification using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Follow test procedures and work instructions under the supervision of a senior technician or engineer.
Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of tested and untested components.
Maintain clean and safe working conditions in the test area.
Support calibration and routine maintenance of lab instruments.
Test Preparation & Setup:
Prepare valve test samples and test rigs in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Assist in fixture assembly and instrument calibration.
Test Execution & Data Collection:
Operate machines for burst pressure, leak, torque, and fatigue testing.
Accurately log results and assist in identifying abnormal test behavior.
Measurement & Inspection:
Perform dimensional checks, surface inspections, and document part condition before and after testing.
Use basic mechanical instruments (e.g., dial indicators, vernier calipers, surface plates).
Documentation & Reporting:
Fill in test reports, tagging forms, and basic observation records.
Ensure traceability of samples and data as per lab procedures.
Safety & Lab Discipline:
Follow EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) guidelines while handling equipment and pressurized systems.
Maintain 5S standards and contribute to lab upkeep.
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
0–2 years of experience in mechanical testing or quality inspection (internships and academic projects acceptable).
Basic understanding of valves, mechanical testing principles, and standard test instruments.
Hands-on familiarity with lab tools such as calipers, gauges, pressure sensors, and data loggers is a plus.
Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to follow procedures.
Basic MS Excel skills and comfort with documentation.
