Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Supervisor – Steam Systems is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of mechanical maintenance activities related to steam generation, distribution, and associated equipment. This role ensures the integrity, reliability, and safe operation of high-pressure steam systems by supervising multidisciplinary teams, enforcing regulatory compliance (ASME, NBIC, OSHA), and coordinating with cross-functional departments to optimize performance and reduce downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement of steam generation and distribution systems, including boilers, steam turbines, PRVs, steam traps, heat exchangers, and condensate systems.

  • Develop and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring equipment availability and efficiency.

  • Supervise and coach a team of mechanical technicians and junior supervisors, ensuring tasks are completed safely, on time, and to high standards.

  • Monitor and analyze system performance metrics, initiate root cause investigations, and drive corrective action plans.

  • Ensure full compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, NBIC, local regulations, and company safety policies.

  • Manage major maintenance turnarounds and boiler shutdowns, overseeing scheduling, resource planning, and contractor coordination.

  • Evaluate and recommend mechanical upgrades, retrofits, and design improvements for steam systems to improve reliability and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with operations, process engineering, instrumentation, and project management teams on steam system enhancements and capital projects.

  • Conduct safety briefings, audits, toolbox talks, and safety incident investigations related to mechanical systems and high-pressure steam operations.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, inspection records, and maintenance logs using a CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo).

🎯 Key Focus Areas:

  1. System Integrity & Reliability

    • Maintain high levels of mechanical system uptime through strategic maintenance and performance monitoring.

  2. Regulatory Compliance & Safety Leadership

    • Enforce compliance with pressure system safety codes (ASME Section I, NBIC) and maintain audit readiness at all times.

  3. Maintenance Execution & Planning

    • Lead planning and execution of critical maintenance operations, boiler shutdowns, and system upgrades.

  4. Team Leadership & Mentorship

    • Supervise, train, and mentor mechanical personnel; drive technical excellence and safety awareness.

  5. Performance Optimization & Energy Efficiency

    • Identify areas for energy loss, steam inefficiencies, and implement mechanical modifications or upgrades.

📘 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline.

  • 8–12 years of experience in mechanical maintenance with a strong focus on steam systems, boilers, and utilities infrastructure.

  • Proven track record in leading large mechanical teams and managing maintenance in high-pressure steam environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of ASME Section I, NBIC, and OSHA regulations.

  • Experience with root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode analysis, and maintenance best practices.

  • Proficiency in CMMS systems for tracking and planning (SAP, Maximo preferred).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and technical troubleshooting skills.

  • Certifications such as Power Engineer License, National Board Commissioned Inspector, or CWI (preferred).
