Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Mechanical Supervisor – Steam Systems is responsible for supporting the supervision of operations, maintenance, and repair activities associated with industrial steam systems. This includes monitoring boilers, piping, valves, heat exchangers, and associated mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. The role focuses on learning supervisory tasks, coordinating basic maintenance activities, and promoting safe practices while adhering to applicable codes and plant procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising daily operations and routine maintenance of steam generation and distribution systems.

  • Monitor system parameters and support troubleshooting of mechanical issues in boilers, steam traps, pumps, valves, and condensate systems.

  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and contractors during minor repairs or planned maintenance activities.

  • Maintain basic documentation, including logbooks, checklists, and work order records.

  • Support the implementation of preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for steam equipment.

  • Ensure safety protocols are followed during maintenance and operation of pressurized systems.

  • Participate in inspections and basic performance testing of steam equipment (e.g., trap surveys, valve functionality).

  • Assist in identifying parts and materials needed for maintenance activities and ensuring timely procurement.

  • Work with senior engineers to understand applicable codes, such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, OSHA standards, and local safety regulations.

  • Promote safe work practices and participate in toolbox talks and maintenance planning meetings.

    • Gain working knowledge of steam system components and their operational interdependencies (boilers, turbines, piping, traps).

  2. Maintenance Supervision Support

    • Assist in supervising and coordinating repair tasks while learning how to prioritize maintenance workloads.

  3. Preventive Maintenance and Inspection

    • Help implement scheduled maintenance programs for mechanical reliability and safety compliance.

  4. Safety and Compliance

    • Follow and enforce safety guidelines related to pressurized systems and support incident-free operations.

  5. Documentation and Learning

    • Maintain accurate records and expand technical knowledge through mentorship, hands-on tasks, and procedural reviews.


📘 Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field.

  • 0–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or utilities operations (internship or apprenticeship preferred).

  • Familiarity with industrial steam systems and mechanical components (valves, pumps, steam traps, boilers).

  • Basic understanding of maintenance procedures and safety regulations (e.g., lockout/tagout, confined space entry).

  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset.

  • Willingness to work in field environments and respond to mechanical issues as needed.
