The Junior Mechanical Shop Supervisor oversees daily operations of the mechanical fabrication and maintenance shop, supporting senior supervision. This role ensures safe, efficient production of fabricated parts and assemblies, coordinates workflow for technicians and fitters, and maintains equipment readiness. Under guidance, the Junior Supervisor helps enforce quality standards, safety protocols, and timely job completion.
Shop Workflow & Scheduling
Coordinate daily shop assignments—welding, machining, fitting, assembly—based on work orders and project priorities.
Monitor progress and adjust technician allocation to meet deadlines.
Team Coordination & Guidance
Supervise and coach 3–5 shop technicians and apprentices in proper techniques and safety practices.
Conduct briefings on job scope, tooling requirements, and quality expectations.
Equipment & Tool Management
Ensure shop tools and machinery (lathes, mills, welders, presses) are maintained, calibrated, and available.
Report equipment faults and coordinate preventive maintenance with the maintenance team.
Quality Assurance
Inspect fabricated components for dimensional accuracy, weld integrity, and adherence to drawings and specifications.
Document non-conformances and work with senior staff to implement corrective actions.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce shop safety rules—PPE use, machine guarding, LOTO procedures—and lead weekly safety huddles.
Assist in shop housekeeping and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate job logs, timecards, and material usage records.
Prepare simple progress reports and escalate delays or issues to senior supervision.

Basic Troubleshooting of Shop Machinery
Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication Technology, or related trade.
1–3 years of hands-on experience in a mechanical/shop environment.
Familiarity with machining, welding processes (MIG/TIG), and metal fabrication techniques.
Strong organizational and multitasking ability
