Job Title: Mechanical Service Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Expert Mechanical Service Technician to provide advanced technical expertise in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing critical repairs, optimizing the performance of mechanical systems, and providing leadership in the service department. As an expert in the field, you will be called upon to resolve the most challenging mechanical issues, mentor less experienced technicians, and implement best practices to improve service operations. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advanced Troubleshooting and Repairs:

    • Lead the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical systems and equipment, including turbines, high-powered motors, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, HVAC units, and industrial machinery.
    • Provide expert-level insights and technical direction to resolve the most challenging and time-sensitive mechanical issues.
    • Conduct in-depth failure analysis and root cause investigations to prevent recurring issues and optimize equipment reliability.
  2. Leadership and Technical Mentorship:

    • Act as a technical leader and mentor for junior, mid-level, and senior service technicians, offering guidance, training, and troubleshooting assistance.
    • Lead service teams during critical repair projects, ensuring that work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all technical standards.
    • Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions and contribute to the development of the team’s technical expertise through training and hands-on mentoring.
  3. Process Improvement and Innovation:

    • Identify and lead initiatives to improve service processes, optimize repair techniques, and reduce downtime for mechanical systems.
    • Recommend and implement innovative solutions, tools, and methods to enhance the efficiency of service operations and the lifespan of mechanical systems.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the design and manufacturability of components, providing feedback from real-world service experiences.
  4. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Oversee complex service projects, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently, timelines are met, and budgets are adhered to.
    • Coordinate between internal departments (engineering, procurement, operations) and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of repair, installation, or commissioning projects.
    • Provide detailed reports on the status of service projects, including progress updates, technical challenges, and resolutions.
  5. Quality Control and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all service work meets the highest quality standards and adheres to industry regulations, safety standards, and internal policies.
    • Conduct final inspections and testing of repaired equipment to verify performance and compliance before returning to service.
    • Maintain meticulous records of service activities, including technical details, parts used, time spent, and recommendations for future maintenance.
  6. Customer Relations and Support:

    • Provide expert-level customer support, resolving complex issues quickly and efficiently while maintaining positive relationships with clients.
    • Offer technical consulting services to clients, advising them on system optimization, preventive maintenance strategies, and equipment upgrades.
    • Lead client meetings and discussions, providing clear and concise explanations of technical issues and solutions.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation for all service activities, including technical specifications, repair logs, and maintenance schedules.
    • Prepare comprehensive technical reports for internal teams, management, and customers, outlining service history, issue resolution, and recommendations.
    • Contribute to the development and refinement of service manuals, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  8. Safety and Environmental Stewardship:

    • Champion a culture of safety, ensuring that all service work is performed in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
    • Conduct safety audits and lead by example, ensuring that all team members follow safety protocols and use proper protective equipment.
    • Identify and address any safety or environmental risks associated with mechanical systems or service activities.

Key Focus Areas:

Vehicle Dynamics:

  • Assist in analyzing and optimizing vehicle handling, stability, and ride comfort through simulation and testing.

Powertrain Systems:

  • Contribute to the design and testing of powertrain components, including engines, transmissions, and drivetrains.

Structural Engineering:

  • Design and test vehicle structures for safety, performance, and durability under various conditions.

Electronics & Electrical Systems:

  • Support the integration of electronic systems, including vehicle control, infotainment, and electrical power distribution.

Thermal Systems:

  • Assist in the development of thermal management systems, focusing on engine cooling and HVAC systems.

Manufacturing & Assembly:

  • Participate in optimizing manufacturing processes and assembly techniques to improve efficiency and product quality.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical certification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
    • 10+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical service, repair, and troubleshooting, with a strong track record in leading complex service operations.
    • Extensive experience with a variety of mechanical systems, including industrial machinery, HVAC systems, automotive systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
  2. Technical Expertise:

    • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting techniques, and repair strategies.
    • Advanced skills in using diagnostic tools and equipment for testing and troubleshooting (e.g., oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers, laser alignment tools).
    • Expertise in interpreting technical schematics, blueprints, and manuals to guide complex repairs and installations.
    • Proficiency in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking service activities and managing equipment records.
  3. Leadership and Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and leading by example in a service-oriented environment.
    • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve the most complex mechanical issues.
    • Superior communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and personal development, with a passion for staying up to date with industry advancements and new technologies.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certifications in mechanical systems, advanced troubleshooting, or equipment repair (e.g., HVAC, PLC, or industrial maintenance certifications).
    • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process optimization certifications are a plus.
    • Any relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, Environmental Health and Safety) are beneficial.
