The Mid-Level Mechanical Plant Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and optimizing key mechanical equipment and systems—such as pumps, compressors, boilers, and HVAC—in a continuous‐process environment. This role takes ownership of shift operations, mentors junior operators, performs intermediate troubleshooting, and supports preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant plant performance.
Shift Operations & Equipment Control
Independently start up, shut down, and adjust mechanical systems according to procedures and production targets.
Monitor control panels, DCS/SCADA indicators, and instrumentation; log operating parameters and identify trends.
Intermediate Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Diagnose and address equipment anomalies (e.g., cavitation, pressure fluctuations, temperature excursions) using mechanical and instrumentation skills.
Execute in-shift corrective actions—balancing, alignment, valve adjustments—and escalate complex faults to maintenance teams.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Support
Perform scheduled lubrication, filter replacements, belt and coupling inspections, and minor component swaps.
Collaborate with reliability teams on vibration, thermography, and oil analysis inspections; implement recommended actions.
Mentorship & Team Coordination
Guide and support junior operators in procedural adherence, data logging, and basic troubleshooting.
Lead shift‐handover meetings, conveying critical equipment status, outstanding work, and safety observations.
Safety, Compliance & Process Improvement
Enforce LOTO, confined-space entry, and other EHS protocols; conduct pre-shift safety checks and hazard assessments.
Identify opportunities for process optimization—energy savings, reduced waste, or throughput improvements—and propose initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate shift logs, maintenance requests, and equipment performance records in CMMS or logbooks.
Generate routine reports on operational metrics (availability, efficiency, alarm counts) for shift reviews.
