The Junior Mechanical Plant Operator is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of plant machinery and mechanical systems. Under supervision, this role monitors equipment performance, performs routine adjustments, assists with start-up and shutdown procedures, and carries out basic maintenance tasks to ensure continuous production and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Equipment Monitoring & Control
Observe gauges, meters, and control panels for pumps, compressors, boilers, and HVAC systems; log readings and report anomalies.
Assist in starting, stopping, and adjusting mechanical equipment according to standard operating procedures.
Routine Maintenance & Housekeeping
Perform basic lubrication, filter changes, belt tensions, and minor repairs under guidance.
Keep machinery areas clean and free of obstructions; remove debris and ensure safe access.
Process Support & Troubleshooting
Respond to alarms and basic fault conditions; escalate complex issues to senior operators or maintenance teams.
Assist in isolating equipment, bleeding lines, and performing lockout/tagout (LOTO) during maintenance.
Shift Handover & Documentation
Complete accurate shift logs, checklists, and maintenance request forms in the operations logbook or CMMS.
Communicate key information—equipment status, pending work, safety concerns—to incoming shifts.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all EHS protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in daily safety briefings.
Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards immediately.
Training & Development
Participate in on-the-job training programs and learn plant processes, control systems, and emergency procedures.
Shadow senior operators to build skills in equipment operation and process understanding.

High school diploma or technical certificate in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Operations, or related field.
0–2 years of experience in a plant or industrial environment; apprenticeships or internships preferred.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems (pumps, compressors, boilers, HVAC).
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Ability to follow procedures and work under supervision
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Basic computer literacy for logging data and using CMMS
