The Junior Mechanical Maintenance Technician – Turbines supports maintenance activities for steam, gas, or hydro turbines and their associated systems. This entry-level role involves assisting with inspections, basic repairs, and scheduled servicing under the supervision of senior technicians. The technician will gain hands-on experience in mechanical systems, safety procedures, and turbine-specific maintenance practices while contributing to equipment reliability and plant availability.
Basic Maintenance Support:
Assist with routine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of turbine components, including bearings, shafts, couplings, and auxiliary systems.
Support disassembly and reassembly tasks during shutdowns and planned maintenance.
Tool Handling & Preparation:
Prepare and organize tools, parts, and materials for turbine maintenance tasks.
Safely use basic hand and power tools under supervision.
Measurement & Documentation:
Take basic measurements such as clearances and alignments using standard gauges and instruments.
Record readings, findings, and observations in maintenance logs or forms.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all plant safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry.
Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas to support safe operations.
Learning & Skill Development:
Participate in on-the-job training and technical sessions related to turbine components, system operation, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Learn to interpret basic technical drawings and turbine maintenance manuals.
Support Breakdown Response:
Assist senior technicians during breakdowns or troubleshooting to restore equipment functionality quickly and safely.
Hands-On Learning:
Gain exposure to turbine maintenance techniques, tools, and procedures through practical fieldwork.
Preventive Maintenance Support:
Assist in routine maintenance tasks that prevent unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
Safety & Tool Discipline:
Follow strict safety protocols and learn proper use and care of mechanical tools and equipment.
Component Familiarization:
Understand key turbine parts such as blades, rotors, casings, seals, and lubrication systems.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with experienced technicians and engineers to develop a strong foundation in turbine maintenance.
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance (or equivalent).
0–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or industrial operations (freshers encouraged to apply).
Basic understanding of rotating equipment is a plus.
Eagerness to learn, follow instructions, and work safely in industrial environments.
Physical fitness for manual labor, work at height, and confined space tasks.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
