We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician to lead maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of shipboard mechanical systems. This role involves supervising mid- and junior-level technicians, ensuring the operational readiness of critical ship machinery, and maintaining compliance with marine engineering standards and regulations. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience and leadership in maintaining propulsion, fuel, cooling, HVAC, hydraulic, and other essential systems aboard commercial or military vessels.
Lead the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on shipboard mechanical equipment.
Diagnose complex mechanical faults and implement effective repairs on propulsion systems, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, steering gear, and auxiliary machinery.
Oversee equipment overhauls, dry-dock servicing, and condition monitoring activities.
Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies such as IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification societies (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s).
Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, OEM manuals, and service bulletins.
Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS tools and ensure proper documentation of inspections and repairs.
Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to mid-level and junior technicians.
Conduct root cause analysis of failures and recommend engineering or procedural improvements.
Liaise with engineering officers, port engineers, OEM vendors, and regulatory inspectors as needed.
Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence in all maintenance activities.
Leadership & Supervision: Guide the maintenance team during routine and critical operations, ensuring best practices are followed.
System Reliability & Uptime: Maximize the reliability of shipboard mechanical systems through proactive maintenance and advanced troubleshooting.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with marine safety and environmental standards.
Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in shipboard mechanical systems and alignments.
Strategic Maintenance Planning: Contribute to long-term maintenance strategies, overhaul schedules, and asset management plans.
Diploma / ITI / Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Industrial Engineering.
5–10 years of progressive experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 2–3 years in a senior or supervisory role aboard vessels or in shipyards.
Strong hands-on expertise in maintaining marine propulsion and auxiliary systems.
Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, alignment tools, and mechanical testing procedures.
Working knowledge of CMMS platforms (e.g., AMOS, MESPAS, Maximo).
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in challenging environments, including confined spaces and hot engine rooms.
STCW or equivalent maritime safety training.
Marine-specific certifications (e.g., propulsion system OEM training, hydraulic systems).
Permit-to-work systems, confined space entry, and HAZMAT handling certifications.
