We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Maintenance Technician to assist in maintaining, repairing, and servicing shipboard mechanical systems. This role involves supporting routine inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and assisting with repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation of onboard systems such as engines, pumps, valves, HVAC, steering, and auxiliary machinery.
Assist in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on shipboard mechanical systems.
Support the inspection and servicing of components such as propulsion units, cooling systems, fuel systems, and bilge pumps.
Follow maintenance schedules, checklists, and work instructions under the supervision of senior technicians.
Use basic hand tools and power tools for mechanical maintenance tasks.
Record maintenance activities and report abnormal findings or equipment malfunctions.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols, especially in confined spaces and engine rooms.
Help maintain spare parts inventory and organize maintenance tools and documentation.
Assist during dry-docking, system overhauls, and onboard technical inspections.
Preventive Maintenance: Routine checks and servicing to prevent equipment failure and extend the life of shipboard systems.
Basic Troubleshooting: Identify and assist in resolving mechanical faults under supervision.
Shipboard Systems Familiarity: Gain hands-on exposure to marine equipment including engines, HVAC, fuel, and steering systems.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to marine safety procedures and guidelines while working in potentially hazardous environments.
Technical Learning & Growth: Learn from experienced technicians and build core skills in mechanical diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
ITI, Diploma, or Certificate in Mechanical / Marine Engineering or related discipline.
0–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance (marine sector preferred, but not mandatory).
Basic understanding of mechanical components and tools.
Willingness to work in shipboard conditions, including confined spaces and engine rooms.
Good communication, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn.
Physically fit and safety-conscious.
Internship or apprenticeship in a marine, shipyard, or industrial maintenance environment.
Basic knowledge of safety standards such as ISM Code, SOLAS, or STCW (if applicable).
Familiarity with maintenance logs or CMMS systems is a plus.
