Roles & Responsibilities

The Mechanical Maintenance Manager – Rotating Equipment is responsible for ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of critical rotating equipment including turbines, compressors, pumps, motors, and gearboxes. The role includes managing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive strategies, overhauls, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Rotating Equipment Maintenance

  • Lead day-to-day maintenance of gas/steam turbines, compressors (centrifugal, screw, reciprocating), pumps, motors, and fans.

  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.

2. Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Supervise diagnostics, failure investigations, and root cause analysis (RCA) of mechanical faults in rotating machinery.

  • Guide timely repair and replacement decisions to minimize equipment downtime.

3. Turnaround & Shutdown Management

  • Plan and manage major overhauls and plant shutdowns involving rotating equipment.

  • Ensure proper scoping, parts availability, manpower planning, and OEM coordination.

4. Reliability Improvement

  • Implement Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), condition monitoring (vibration analysis, thermography), and lubrication programs.

  • Work closely with reliability engineers to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and reduce maintenance costs.

5. Inventory & Spare Parts Management

  • Define critical spares strategy, review BOMs, and ensure availability of essential parts.

  • Optimize inventory costs through just-in-time practices and obsolescence management.

6. Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor mechanical technicians, supervisors, and engineers.

  • Drive training programs, safety practices, and skill development for the rotating equipment team.

7. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines (OSHA, ISO, API).

  • Maintain up-to-date equipment history, inspection records, and maintenance reports using CMMS (SAP, Maximo, etc.).


Key Focus Areas:

  • Rotating Equipment: Gas/steam turbines, pumps (API/ANSI), compressors, blowers, expanders, fans, motors, gearboxes.

  • Maintenance Strategies: Preventive & predictive maintenance, RCM, CMMS-based planning.

  • Condition Monitoring: Vibration, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic inspection.

  • Shutdown/Overhaul Management: Resource coordination, OEM interface, critical path scheduling.

  • Vendor & Contractor Oversight: Supervision of third-party maintenance services and OEM support teams.

  • Performance Metrics: MTTR, MTBF, availability, downtime tracking, and maintenance cost KPIs.

  • Safety & Standards: Adherence to API (610/617/618), ASME, OSHA, ISO standards.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Diploma with strong experience may be considered).

  • Experience: 10+ years in mechanical maintenance roles, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management capacity.

  • Certifications (Preferred): CMRP, API 687, ISO 55000, Six Sigma Green Belt, vibration analysis certifications (Cat I/II).

  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with rotating equipment troubleshooting and alignment, balancing, laser alignment tools, and CMMS systems.

  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, planning, and cross-functional coordination.
