The Senior Mechanical Fitter – Pressure Systems leads the installation, maintenance, and compliance assurance of high- and low-pressure mechanical systems, with emphasis on hygienic standards and operational reliability. This role plays a critical part in capital project execution, shutdown coordination, and mentoring of junior technicians. The senior fitter ensures pressure systems meet sanitary and regulatory codes in support of production continuity and safety.
Oversee the installation and alignment of stainless steel piping, valves, vessels, and utility networks.
Interpret and modify P&IDs, isometric drawings, and layout plans for system expansions and retrofits.
Ensure hygienic design principles (3-A, EHEDG) are followed for all welds, joints, and fittings.
Diagnose and repair mechanical failures in pressure systems including PRVs, steam traps, pumps, and tanks.
Perform complex fitting tasks during shutdowns, emergency repairs, and utility upgrades.
Lead leak detection, system balancing, and torque-controlled flange assembly.
Conduct hydrostatic and pneumatic tests, ensuring systems meet ASME, FDA, and plant-specific standards.
Maintain and audit documentation for inspections, modifications, and mechanical integrity reports.
Coordinate with quality and EHS teams during audits, system validations, and commissioning.
Mentor and train junior and mid-level mechanical fitters in safe work practices and system principles.
Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and automation teams to execute capital and reliability projects.
Serve as a technical lead during critical installations, including valve clusters, CIP/SIP loops, and process skids.
Mechanical integrity and hygienic pressure system leadership
Compliance with ASME, 3-A, FDA/USDA, and local pressure safety codes
Advanced troubleshooting and precision mechanical fitting
Team training, shutdown planning, and cross-functional collaboration
Pressure testing, documentation, and quality control of fittings and seals
High school diploma or GED required
Technical diploma or certification in mechanical or pressure system trades preferred
Boiler/pressure system certification or ASME familiarity strongly preferred
7+ years of experience in mechanical fitting or piping in regulated environments (F&B, pharma, biotech)
Experience with sanitary piping, orbital welding coordination, and CIP/SIP systems highly desirable
Expert-level understanding of pressure systems, including PRVs, seals, gaskets, and hygienic fittings
Ability to read and redline mechanical and P&ID drawings
Proficiency with torque tools, expansion joints, and leak detection methods
Leadership mindset with strong mentorship capabilities
Highly safety-conscious, organized, and detail-oriented
Strong communication skills across departments and trades
