The Mechanical Engineering Manager – Boiler Systems leads the design, operation, and maintenance strategy for boiler systems across the facility. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and energy-efficient performance of steam generation systems, including auxiliary equipment and pressure vessels. The manager provides technical direction, oversees engineering projects, and supports compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Engineering Leadership:
Lead the mechanical design, specification, and performance evaluation of boiler and steam systems.
Manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for the lifecycle of boiler infrastructure.
System Design & Upgrades:
Plan and oversee upgrades to boilers, burners, economizers, and condensate systems.
Drive innovation in design for improved efficiency, emissions reduction, and system capacity.
Project Management:
Manage capital and retrofit projects, from feasibility studies to commissioning.
Ensure projects meet quality, timeline, and cost targets with strong vendor and contractor coordination.
Reliability Engineering:
Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) programs for boilers and auxiliary systems.
Use root cause analysis (RCA) to solve chronic mechanical issues and improve uptime.
Energy Efficiency & Optimization:
Identify and implement boiler optimization opportunities such as fuel efficiency, heat recovery, and process integration.
Collaborate with energy managers to meet sustainability and energy reduction targets.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with codes and standards (e.g., ASME Boiler Code, API, NFPA, OSHA).
Maintain boiler inspection schedules and documentation for pressure vessels and safety devices.
Technical Documentation & Standards:
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including P&IDs, O&M manuals, SOPs, and technical reports.
Standardize practices across operations to ensure consistency and safety.
Team Development:
Mentor junior engineers and technicians; support professional development and training in boiler systems.
Promote a safety-first culture and engineering best practices.
Boiler System Design & Engineering Standards:
Develop and uphold technical standards for high-performance and code-compliant steam systems.
System Reliability & Maintenance Strategy:
Enhance asset reliability through predictive maintenance and lifecycle management of boiler components.
Performance Optimization:
Improve thermal efficiency, combustion quality, and steam utilization through continuous monitoring and improvement.
Safety & Compliance Management:
Lead engineering compliance initiatives to meet boiler codes, pressure equipment regulations, and environmental standards.
Capital Projects Execution:
Deliver cost-effective and technically sound boiler upgrade projects aligned with long-term plant goals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with operations, maintenance, energy, and safety teams to support plant-wide utility integration.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is preferred.
10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong focus on boiler and utility systems.
Proficient in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion, and heat transfer.
Experienced in ASME codes, API standards, and utility system compliance.
Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
